Solved File does not have a program associated with it

I am unable to open any file with the .pps extension. I keep getting this message:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel"

I'm sure this has probably been answered before but this is my first time on this forum and I didn't find it under FAQ.

I'm not a computer person so an answer in plain language would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit

Hello Joev, and welcome to Vista Forums.

The .pps file extension is a Microsoft Office PowerPoint file.

If you do not have PowerPoint installed, then you could use the program below to view .pps files created in PowerPoint 97-2007.

I downloaded what you suggested and am still getting the same message.

Here's a newer version that will read .pps files created in PowerPoint 2010. Uninstall the one above first, then install this one.

Uninstalled first suggestion and then installed the 2nd suggestion. Same message.

I do not use Power Point for business so for me to purchase the program would be a waste of $. I was just trying to open a couple of attachments to emails.

Try saving the attachment to your desktop, then see if it will open it with the newer PowerPoint Viewer program.

That worked. The email attachment wasn't worth it, but I was able to open it.
