Firefox 8 - Anyone else having problems?

How is this version working for everyone else? I have Vista 64-bit Premium Home Edition.

I finally decided to hit the button that said "you're version of Firefox is outdated, update now?" Firefox 8.0 downloaded.

At first, everything seemed fine. Didn't mind the format. Liked some of the new features.

Then the system started to drag and funky things started to happen. Being the cautious person that I am, I removed it completely and restored the system. Everything is fine now and I'm using I.E. currently.

Historically, I have experienced issues with Firefox upgrades in the past. Either from unresolved bugs or incompatibility issues with other programs (not necessarily Mozilla's fault).

Should I try downloading it again or download an older version I know works? Thoughts please?

Another question not just for Firefox. When companies say you should always upgrade to the latest version of their software "to ensure there are no security threats", is this truly necessary?, is it CYA?, is it the company promoting their new product?, or a combination of all three? Opinions?

Hello, yeah, i got it , it did not like one of my add on's , but , otherwise seems fine for me. I am on Vista HB SP2 32bit . Still seems heavy on resources, but , not as bad as the 7, sheesh, sometimes that thing got up to a mil kb , this one hangs out around 475000 k according to Task Manager.

I didn't like 7 so I rolled back to 3.6. I don't like how you either have to hit that stupid orange tab or the alt key to get your bookmarks. Unfortunately now when I type in the bar it is no longer pulling up recently visited pages or closely named bookmarks so I either have to type it all it or pull up the bookmark if I have it. I'm not sure what to do about that I have 3.6 on my work laptop and it functions normally.

Over the years, Firefox has been notorious for its massive memory appetite. After years of letting the problem devolve through continued ignorance, Mozilla finally recognized earlier this year that “we have a pretty pressing need to deal with increases in memory usage in Firefox.” To this end, it launched an initiative called MemShrink, the fruits of which were implemented in Firefox 7. But a lot of work still remains to be done.

Like i mentioned , the outrageous memory usage did drop but, my main complaint is not all the add on's keep up fast enough to be used, anyways, maybe they will get things working better in time.

What do you guys think of Google Chrome? Our IT professional says he uses it for his home computer. Read a few positive things and a "how to" on making it work for Vista and Window 7.

I really didn't care for Chrome. BTW V 8 is not listed as being supported by flash player.
