I would like to see more of these posts. Posts that enable us to harness the power of 64 bit.

I only recently found out that we also have a 64bit version of Media Player, and believe me the sound difference is amazing and the sample rate and bit depth are greatly improved.

"Flash player for vista(64) bit" - This title is somewhat confusing and misleading.

You "can" use Flash Player on Vista 64, "IF" you use Vista 64's 32-bit version of Internet Explorer. To use Vista 64's IE32, go to "Program Files (x86)", "Internet Explorer", look for "iexplore.exe", from there you can create a shortcut on your desktop or link it to your keyboard like I do.

And no, you can't play flash files on Internet Explorer 64 because Flash is not 64-bit compatible. And yes, I tried the method posted by dinesh. And If you "do" have flash playing in IE, then check the version of IE by going to "help", "About Internet Explorer" and see if it states it's the 64-bit version?

Could you post the information about the browser used on your testing, and also the architecture reported by the taskmanager please.

Since it was installed on SysWOW64 I assume it's a 32bit binary and it wouldn't load on 64bit browsers.

Many THX for this.

yes like someone said before this is a 32 bit flash installer
and as you guys know 32 bit plugins dont work in 64bit browsers...

the reason why you think it worked is because by default 64 bit vista uses 32 bit IE...
if you change to 64 bit IE and go to a website such as youtube you wont be able to play any file because their is no 64 bit flash plugin...

Gotcha darkassain.
But then i m not getting it why cant people use the 32-bit version of IE if there is no flash plug-in for 64-bit IE?
I hate IE since when MS has launched it.
Even in Windows 98, i used Opera and Maxthon as a substitute.
Now In Vista and Windows 7(build 6801), i use Firefox. It works just fine.

yeah you got me...:)
i dont see most people in this forum using IE or that i know of...lol
most people are using firefox 3 ( the secuirity comes from the addons though...
i am almost completely shielded (pretty much overkill...lol) with adblock, noscript, flashblock and requestPolicy)
or as some of the more courageous (or have time to mess around with settings and redownloading addons (or have the portable version, that would be me) firefox b2 or the nightly builds (which both i use...lol)
there is still a big # of people out there using IE though...lol
most likely for preference (it just works and its already there....:p)

My Computer

Dinesh,

What exactly is the purpose of your post? Is it to show that flash works under Vista 64? Is it to show that it can be run in Internet Explorer 64-bit?

I’m not exactly sure what it is you’re trying to “solve”? It’s widely known that flash DOES NOT work under Internet Explorer 64-bit…even Adobe has confirmed it. So what magic solution do you have?

At any rate I just tried your procedure again, and as I suspected, nothing happened…, because…I already have flash installed…under IE-32.

Here’s the facts – Under Vista 64, you can install flash on the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer by simply going to adobe’s website (Adobe - Adobe Flash Player), just as you would do on any other OS.

All your procedure does is create extra steps and confusion, which could be avoided by understanding that flash does not support IE-64, and the program can be installed more efficiently by visiting Adobe’s website and either download or installing the latest version from there. Plus you’ll know immediately if the program failed or not.

My concern is that you’re creating misunderstanding, confusion, frustration, and extra work.

Incidentally the flash utility you mention (FlashUtil9b) is an older version of flash. I have version 10a, which just happens to be the version I have installed on IE-32 under Vista 64!

Yes, your procedure works, but unless the user uses IE-32, they won’t see that your procedure worked, (on IE-32), because they’ll be expecting see the results on IE-64!

So again, what is the purpose of your post?

Just trying to avoid any misunderstandings.

Thanks.

Microsoft has nothing to do with the fact that Adobe does not support flash in IE64. That's an Adobe decision.

As far as using IE-32 in Vista 64, as I said,

To use Vista 64's IE32, go to "Program Files (x86)", "Internet Explorer", look for "iexplore.exe", from there you can create a shortcut on your desktop or link it to your keyboard like I do.

And I've been using IE-32 under Vista 64 since I discovered flash didn't support IE-64. That was a bummer.

I'm off my high horse now :)

Just trying to eliminate the confusion. Sorry

Under Vista 64, the default Internet Explorer is 64-bit, at least it was mine on three Vista 64 installs. Personally I think it should default to 32 but...
