I have to admit, there's something extremely sexy about an iPad. It starts up right away. The battery life is far better than a laptop. And it makes casual surfing of the web so easy from the comfort of your own bed.

Still... there are a lot of things a tablet can't do that a laptop can handle without problems. There's also a far greater range of software available (especially if you're in the Windows camp).

So what do you plan to get for your next computing machine? A laptop or a tablet?

I will definately get a laptop (as my mobile pc). I have an iPod Touch for my mobile needs when i can't bring my laptop. My laptop is fast and it doesn't have the crazy restrictions that tablets (cough cough Apple iPad cough cough)have.

I'm puzzled by something... I posted this as a poll, and it shows in the sub forum list as a poll, yet I do not see one here. Searching for "poll" on the page turns up nothing. Where did it go?

My next computer weill be a desktop. I'm not sure what my next ereader will be. Ereader ? Yes, I consider the iPad and 'tablets' to be gimmicked up ereaders, not computers.

^^ Well, I'd call them "compulites". They do compute, but the extent of supported software is very limited and the operating system is not nearly as full featured as on a laptop or workstation. iPad apps can be programmed with a lot of functionality, but they're rather restricted in terms of computing power. This kind of form factor is essentially a hand-held browser, great for doing light work and not much else.

I have a cheap laptop, a gaming PC in my kids room, and an Android tablet. Not sure what I would get next.
Maybe a Frankenstein gaming PC that I build myself just to mess around on.

I would imagine though, that I would end up getting another laptop if/when this one dies. I really have no use for anything more than what I have unless I either got into gaming again, or got into architectural drafting and design again

I am going to get a tablet in a few weeks. It is a Samsung Galaxy tab 2 7.0. I like the openess of Android compared to iOS's "walled garden". Also, the battery on my iPod Touch is worn out, so I need something to replace the iPod.

Mine has worked pretty good so far. I used my desktop computer to look over the Android marketplace. I'm not impressed by the apps I looked at. Many of the free ones show adverts. I noticed a number that sounded interesting, all of the reviews said they didn't work.

Well, the one free app I tried out, Pathfinder's version of D&D 3.x book. Easy to use, shows lots of hard work went into it. Worth downloading.

I really bought this tablet for e-reading and for one paper and pencil game I play.

Might get one of the free plantarium programs because the last one I bought for my Wnidows computer doesn't work under anything more recent than WIN XP. Tried compatibility mode, but it wouldn't even install.
