I use Revo uninstaller to remove it from peoples computer it is not needed and will try to start at start up of your computer.
Free version of Revo is all you need.

Weakest part of my computer is the graphics chipset.
    Only ever used a laptop.
Also use USB Freeview TV Card
    Lenovo Docking Station
    External Speakers
Other bits a pieces as needed
is there any risk in letting it be?

No but it will try to start at start-up unless you go into services.msc, highlight it, go to properties, and change the start-up type to disabled
To get to services.msc just type it in the start search box

ok, I disabled that.. had two entries for gupdate, that and gupdatem. left that second entry alone as I have no idea what it does and dont really feel like frakking with it till its a problem.

also disabled the flash updater service... which wasnt really doing anything either and only contributing to a detectable slowdown in boot.

both disabled services contributed.. anywho.. machine's working and is stable.
