Hard Drive Will Not Boot UP! :(

There isn't only one cd that will do everything.

When you boot Gparted , what does it show?

Does it see partitions? What does it say they are?

If Gparted doesn't see the drive - at the very least, it should show one large Unallocated drive, even if the partition table is a mess - then there is almost certainly a physical hardware problem.

If that is the case, you need to get someone to repair it. If the HD itself has failed - you will have a lot of trouble/expense getting data off it.

When it first boots..there is about 6 options you have to choose
Next..it starts coding..massive words, commands, etc
Next...It brings up a screen like a Windows Desktop
Then..from there..it shows nothing for a partition or a drive!!
Like I said over and over..I do not what I am doing..hell it might be the options
I use might be a reason why it does not show a drive, partition, etc.

Just press enter when Gparted stops and asks - the defaults are fine.

Assuming you did that, and no drive is displayed in the Gparted main window - then it looks like there is a problem with the drive itself, or the connections.

You need to take it to a reliable repair shop - they can check the connections and let you know what the damage is.

Hello again..

I have talked to a HP tech for about an hour and he emailed this to me!
Can someone in PLAIN English, tell me what I need to do..PLEASE!
Remeber..I am a NEWBIE :)

Thanks again
From your description it seems that your disk controller may have failed. You should be able to recover files by removing the disk and using an external USB drive enclosure to attach it to a working PC.
