have a Chkdsk problem!

Hello, I'm a newbie here & need help !
A scheduled ChekDisk on my HP desk top has stopped & locked up @ 36% - 30hours ago. I did 2 restarts and it locked up again @ 36% both times.
Any one have this happen before? If so & were able to fix this or if you have knowlegde of how to could you share ?
