HELP, any suggestions please?

It might be a RAM issue. Take it back and get the manufacturer/shop to test or replace the components/computer.

Hi SIW2 and Barman58, thanks for the advice. i will contact packard bell beforehand and keep on at the techguys, then if i dont get any further i will directly go to PCworld and be quite stern with them about my situation. so am i really entitled to a new machine or full refund under the sale of goods act? even after 9 months?

Hi Scott

Microsoft's explanation for your errors

5007

has to do with a file used in the customer improvement program incorrectly timestamped - Microsoft states to ignore this, although further research found a thread on how to correct it - unfortunately the links to the solution (a file download of a replacement corrected file) are now dead links

6008

Basically an unexpected shutdown has occurred

It may be worth looking at any errors just prior to the 6008 as this error is created on the re-boot, so that hopefully the actual error causing the freeze will be in the log before this one.

Hope this helps

Hi Scott

Microsoft Explanation again

ACPI Error 6

This is quite interesting as although it is another one that Microsoft says you can ignore research states that it is solved in Service Pack 1 for Vista.

Do you have SP1 Installed? I have been assuming you do ,It does solve quite a few random faults with power management.

also do you have the latest vista drivers for your motherboard, either from Packard Bell or the motherboard manufacturer - this would also possibly solve errors

1101

this error states that the error log is being overloaded! so it could be that the messages that actually relate to the crash are not even getting into the log.

Hope this helps

My Computer

To check if you have SP1 installed click the start orb and start to type welcome at the top of the screen you will see Welcome Centre appear, Click on this and when the welcome centre loads select show more information. if SP1 is installed then it will be noted in the first section on the screen.

as for the drivers can you post back the exact model number of your PC and I'll see what I can find.

Hi Nigel,

The details don't matter really, you're providing the encouragement Scott needs to get this sorted out.

If there's something wrong with Scott's purhase , I don't think it's likely pcworld will be awkward about this - they know the score, and they rely on customer goodwill.

To check if you have SP1 installed click the start orb and start to type welcome at the top of the screen you will see Welcome Centre appear, Click on this and when the welcome centre loads select show more information. if SP1 is installed then it will be noted in the first section on the screen.

as for the drivers can you post back the exact model number of your PC and I'll see what I can find.

hi barman, it just says windows vista home premium, then just shows the system info after.
where can i find the model nuber that yo mention?:o

My Computer

OK Scott

first thing to do I think is to get SP1 installed...

Download SP1

if you click on the download in the link above and select "save File" when prompted ( desktop is as good a place as any to save the file )

don't worry if it takes a while to download, its BIG file [434.5 MB] :D

Just to be safe BEFORE you run this file, backup any and all personal files that you can't do without ( have installed this upgrade many times without problems, but would not want you to lose anything if something did go wrong)

allow yourself about an hour to install the upgrade. shouldn't take that long but you need to be present in case it asks for reboots etc.

run the file with admin privileges ( Right click "run as Administrator), and let it work it's magic ;)

after everything is finished use your PC for a while and see if you get the errors

as for the PC Model number that should be on the documents that you received with the PC or even on a label on the case

hopefully SP1 will solve things :D

am off to Bye Byes now :sleepy: but will be back on line tomoz

hi barman i downloaded sp1 and restarted the pc, and it crashed!!!:mad:
so im gonna go to pc world one day this week, take back my tower and have it out with them, and im not leaving till i get a refund, or a new tower! im gonna put my foot down this time and not take no crap!:D:D

My Computer

i phoned up the tech guys for one last ditch attempt!
and i spoke to second line support, and the guy was helpful, and he has ordered me some more memory, and a new motherboard.
the motherboard he ordered for me wasnt in stock, and would take 7-10 days to come, and he said when it came in they would phone me to get an engineer to fit it!
he also found out a new bios update was available for my desktop, and he pointed me in the direction to download it!
since ive downloaded it, my pc has been fine, and ive had no problems with it crashing!
so it seems the situation is resolved! hurrray!
so now i'd like to thank the people whove posted on the thread with advice.
regards.

Hi scott,

Thanks for posting back and so happy you've got things resolved, :D, and you've got some nice spares coming for the future ;)

If you could edit your first post to add "Solved" to the start of the title as this might help others with a similar problems in the future,

All the best ...
