Howdy all,

Here is my problem.....

After bootup of my system, my system gets to the normal acount login (as normal) but then tries to log into an account that doesnt exist!!! on the login screen there is an account with no picture but it requires a password! It all of a sudden appeared the other day.

I have used "manage accounts" to try and delete it but it does not appear on there.

the os I am using is vista home basic 32bit.

any held getting rid of this "ghost" account would be grateful.

Many thanks.

Try this.

Hello runchrisrun,
Does this account have a name ?.
Have you installed any software, updates, or hardware, prior to this account appearing ?.

I know you have run several malware programs, but Malwarebytes will pick up things that others miss, so, as richc46 suggested, give it a go.

Also, download and run this free app.

CCleaner - Home Backup Registry When Prompted.

Give this a try and post your results, good luck.

I cant speak for Stoney, but I know I am guessing. I have never seen this before, so I will try anything.

Follow this tutorial and see if the all powerful super administrator can delete this for you.

Just had a thought. How did you get Vista? Was it preinstalled? Did you install yourself? Someone else install for you? I am beginning to think in terms that there is one good possiblity.

1 If you bought the computer used or if someone else installed the OS, that person could have created the account and then hidden it.
