HELP required PLEEEESAE!!

Hi everyone, I`m here because I need assistance for my laptop. I`ve tried everything I know (which amounts to very little) and have come here to ask the experts.

The problem is that lately I`ve noticed my laptop slowing down and it getting worse. The CPU is running 100% flat out most of the time. Even when I`m doing nothing it hangs around the 60-80% mark then occasionally drops below 50%.

I got a blue screen the day before yesterday while running PCGuard spyware scan and Windows Defender scan at the same time. I thought maybe the PC had got too hot and switched off. It said something about a driver but unfortunately I didn`t take note? I use PCGuard that came with my Virgin package with has an anti-virus scanner and spyware detection.

I looked at the task manager and some processes I`ve never heard of, are using the power up. I tried pressing end process but they will immediately reappear. The most noticable ones are ScanningProcess.exe. It describes it as AV Kaspersky. (I read that its nothing to do with the Virgin PCGuard) There is also mencoder.exe with no description and comskip.exe, also with no description.

When I use the Resource Monitor it doesn`t always have the same processes showing as Task Manager shows?

I get a lot of critcal events, too many to list but a few of them are:-

Boot Performance Monitor....event 100
Shutdown Performance Monitor...event 200
System Performance monitor... event 400

I also get loads of warnings and errors in Windows Logs/Application for example:-

Event ID 4609: Source: EventSystem

The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 8007043 from line45 of d:\longhorn\com\complus\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error.

and Event 10: Source WMI

Event filter with query "SELECT*FROM_InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespece"//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Event cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

I`m not very experienced with computers so I don`t know what info I should be listing. I read the thread about how to ask a question so I`m hoping to get some of the info correct?

I tried running GMER Rootkit detector (from advice I read) but that just confused me. I also tried SUPERAntiSpyware but it wouldn`t run and a program called RunScanner which also wouldn`t run.

I`ve listed my system specs in my userCP as required.

The CPU has gone down to 20% as I`m writing this? (Maybe the problem knows what website I`m on and is frightened by the answers) :)

I`d really appreciated any help that you, the Techno God`s of this forum can provide.

Thank you in advance

Andrew

Hello Stoney,
I`ve done exactly what you suggested. Ccleaner found a load of files and malwarebytes found 2 infections. Trend housecall didn`t come up with anything though.

My laptop does appear to be running better now!! The only thing I don`t reckonise in task manager is PD91AgentS1.exe but it doesn`t seem to be doing anything anyway. While I`m surfing my CPU runs at about 50-70% which I guess is normal.

I`d like to thank you for your time and your knowledge. Its been a great help. I shall keep running the programs you advised in the future.

many many Thanks

Andy

I'm glad you noticed an improvement.

One other thing you can do is to check what programs are running at startup.
Go to > Start > Run > and type "msconfig" (no quotes), open the startup tab, there you will see all the programs that load when you boot your PC.

Things like Malwarebytes, adobe, any auto updates for third party software, (java and flash player, that sort of thing), all these can be disabled and started manually when needed.

This will help boot times, and free up resources.
Any problems in the future, you know where we are.

Hi again, I`m sorry to say but my PC has got worse since my last post. I am having trouble even typing this because my PC is so slow that I have to wait while it catches up.

The fan is always spinning and the light showing when its accessing the harddrive is always flashing. I`ve had many freeze up since the last time I posted and I have to press and hold the off button which I heard was not a good thing to do.

I have ran all the programs you suggested as before but its still the same. I now have icons missing too. The PD91Agent comes from Raxco PerfectDisk which I did not install.
Another process called SanaAgent.exe runs in the task manager which I have no idea how it got there. My PC is always hot and I`m worried it will burn itself out.

Do you have any idea what my problem is? I`ll be very grateful for any ideas. Thank you very much.

regards
andrew

Sana Agent is part of the PC Guard security package - it helps detect various kinds of malware and their behaviour. Try turning it off and see if there is an improvement.
Do you use PC Guard ?.
Can you go into Task Manager (processes tab) and see what is driving the CPU and what is hogging all the memory.
Also, do you have Error Fix from virgin media ?.

Yes I do use PCGuard but I don`t have error fix. When I look at the Task Manager, sometimes ScanningProcess.exe is using up a lot of CPU but other times nothing appears to be doing much. When I look at the Performance Monitor under Resourse Overview it show different processes running to the Task Manager?

In the Reports section, under Hardware and Driver checks it shows it has failed. It says:-

"A device Microsoft ISATAP Adapter, cannot start properly. It may not have the correct driver installed or may be experiencing a hardware failure. The Plug and Play ID for this device is ROOT\*ISATAP\7"

There are 15 different similar errors like this one. As I`m writing this the Task Manager doesn`t show any activity but my typing is still being slowed up by something and the fan is going flat out? And the harddrive is being accessed?

The Event Viewer shows many errors, some critical, but I`m not sure how to deal with them.
When I turned off the Anti-Spyware in PCGuard, ScanningProcess disappeared but I didn`t see any improvement in performance. When I turn it back on though it does go right to the top of the Task Manager and uses a lot of CPU. The multi-media lights are also still flashing?

Thanks again for any ideas you have.

Hi Stoney...

Thanks for the link. It didn`t find any integrity violations. I guess that a good thing??

Does that mean I have software problems?

At least you know your file system is OK.
The only other thing i can think of, is to go into Task Manager and disable running services/programs, and see if you can find the culprit there.
It will be a long and tedious process, but i cant think of anything else that will show up the problem service/program.

Hi Stoney,

I have UNinstalled PCGuard and INstalled AVG. At first it seemed ok but then suddenly my PC froze again. This has happened several times now.

When I go into the Task Manager, does it matter in what order I disable the processes and services or will it not hurt if I stop anything?

Thanks for taking the time to help me.

Andrew

You can disable them in any order, and if it causes a crash, just reboot.

Hello again, I`ve not been able to use my PC for ages now. This is the first time because it kept freezing up instantly so I used another user account and it has let me in but it only lasts for about 10 minutes.
I think I am going to have to do a clean reinstall which I didn`t want to do unless anyone has a better idea? I don`t want to do it only to find it didn`t need to be done...

Sorry to hear your still having problems, download this app and check your temps, also run the memory diagnostic tool, just to be sure.
I would also download and run the diagnostic software for your HDD, you can get this from the makers site.

Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

It may be necessary to do a fresh install, but just check your hardware first.
Give this a go and post your results.

Thank you both for your replies.....

STONEY... Yes I have already used Scanfan and run the memory diagnostic tool. Speedfan only came back with a couple of temperatures which weren`t any help (sorry I can`t remember which temps they were) and the Memory Diag tool came back OK.
But I can hopefully run an HDD check from the makers site. Thank you

KENNY... My PC won`t run in safe mode. It stops on a file called chkdsc or similar, then runs a disc check tool everytime I switch on??
And I only have one anti-virus program AVG.
My caps lock keeps jumping on and off now???
(sworry but i gotta be quick cos its slowing up again and is gonna crash
