Can someone help me resolve an issue regardihe =ng the Network Location Awareness and COM+ System Application services? I desperately need help with resolving this issue on my laptop; I'm having to use an old Dell Latitude with extremely buggy hardware to type this message. I've tried to nthieinclude details in this post several times, only to be redirected in the middle of typing, resulting in the contents of my posed bauset being lost. I'm really getting frustrated. Please mind my spelling, the keyboard on this thing is nearly unusable; keys are switched around and all sorts of fun stuff

Okay, I've managed to find a flash drive so I can have some way to move data from my laptop to the Latitude. Anyways, be warned. Alot of potentially irrelevant information follows...

Running Vista Home Basic

My problems started three days ago when I was having some connectivity issues involving our Clear modem. Not the best thing to use, I know. So I called their tech support and they sent me on a wild goose chase, instructing me to tweak some of my network settings. After I rebooted my computer, I was getting errors left and right from People Near Me, Windows Live Messenger, the "Connect to a Network" icon in the system tray, and when I tried to see what went wrong, the System Event log viewer as well.

I noticed that some services weren't running right; the Network Location Awareness and the System Event Notification services. I tried to replace nlasvc.dll(I still have the old one) and now it's not even showing up in the Services listing. I continue to have problems with the System Event Notfication and possibly other services. Can someone help me out?
