help with webcam please

I have a dell laptop and installed an islim 1300 webcam. In messenger live before i installed the camera i can have video conversation with my friends but with me only seeing them. Now i installed this camera i can still see them but when my camera wont show up and then freezes and crashes the computer ..... can someone help me with ideas how to get this working please

How did you install the driver, off a CD or off the internet.

If you tell us this basic information we might be able to help you more.

Some general advice would be to check on your manufacturer's website whether or not you are using the most up to date driver.

Also, what is the speed of your internet connection?

I had the same problem and fought with it for months. Then one day I went to setup in messenger and changed the webcam to "generic" webcam instead of my real one. Worked perfectly from then on. Try it, you have nothing to lose.

camera is Genius islim1300

INSTALLED DRIVER FROM CD AND THEN DELTED AND INSTALLED THROUGH WEBSITE

internet connection usually preety fast - and tried the camera with a work latop which is xp and not vista and it worked perfect so cant be the internet speed

Try uninstalling the driver and then plugging the cam into the PC without a driver. This will mean Windows will look for an appropriate driver online to make it work. This probably wont solve the problem but it's worth a shot.
