echrada!! You are evidently a well travelled person!!To have lived in Cardwell? What a great spot, and as for sunrises over Hinchinbrook Island!! Cardwell is where you stop for the best 'Fish and Chips' in this part of Australia.....I've even driven the two and a half hours for them, and then to sit on the jetty in bliss!!

All alone one day on the beach at Kennedy National Park, not another soul in sight, took a swim in chest deep water, swam to shore and had taken about four steps, heard a large splash and turning around, saw a large Crocodile not 10 feet off the water's edge......been there since, but never swum there again! Mmmmmmm.

Was there when the protesters protested against destroying the Mangroves by building a hotel... and the Manatees that were getting injured by the boats going to Hitchinbrook.

Beach was lovely in the early morning and sunset with a bottle of wine, oh the memories....

Ahhhhhh! those days of CAFNEC protests.....I remember them well, and then I forget them, and then the memories return of the sweet smelling blue haze, and choco-mint biscuits by the packet!!......Enough!!

Thought you might be interested to see how Norm is faring.....no rain in Gladstone YET but the system is only about 80km [50miles] offshore, and spiralling quite nicely, thank-you. Look further north along the coast in this link to Mackay, where they've had 172mm [about 7 inches] of rain since 9am today [now 5.30], and it's still bucketing down here as well, with a few laundry tubs thrown in for good measure!!!

Anyway, this is 'Norm's Country';

"Hamish" has now intensified to full Catagory 5 system slowly closing in on the coast, and heading to the tourist mecca of the Whitsunday Islands group.

It remained parallel in track to the coast here in the north, so all we have had was a damn good dump of rain. Woke this am to a calm but very humid day of 27 degrees C.

I'm a bit concerned about Norm's situation though, as he is in direct line after the Whitsundays. Queensland Premier has declared a full state of emergency along the coastal communities from Townsville south as huge seas pound the coast.

I Heard that it is heading south-east now, and thank goodness for that i live on Bribie Island Off of the coast of aussie, sooooo hope we don't get struck too badly
it was raining practically all day today!

BTW it is far off the coast of Rockhampton but there are severe weather warnings from that area all the way down to the QLD/NSW Border!

Hi Guys. You can't keep a good country down Mate! Hamish did it's best, but it missed by "THAT MUCH". Lots of trees down, branches and leaves, no real damage to us or Gladstone, although not much beach left.

Thanks for the concerns and thoughts. You are ALL great.
