How do you search?

I recently backed up my iPod to a folder on my external, and when I go to search for a certain song in the folder it shows up with "no results" when I know it is clearly in there. I have tried the indexing thing or whatever, and maybe I messed something up? Not sure, but it is really bothering me. I have spent the whole day trying to figure this out.

have you added the relevant folders from your ext HDD to the music library..??

your windows search may not find them due to the new location.

If you're doing a regular Search of the "Indexed locations" for your external HDD files, you won't find them in the Indexed locations unless/until you ADD those files and location to your Indexed locations setting, and/or have the device plugged in when you're searching.

Another way to approach the problem, is to do an Advanced Search of the NON-indexed locations. In Locations, select either: Everywhere or Computer, and be sure to check: "Include non-indexed, system and hidden files." The search will definitely be slower than a non-Advanced Search, but it will search your entire system and assumedly, locate your external HDD files - again, if you've added them and/or have the device plugged in.

There are no files to add to my music library. I don't keep the music on my computer. It went right from my iPod to my HDD, and I am searching on the HDD in my music folder for songs.

I believe I tried this, and still nothing. And of course I have the device plugged in because I would not be able to view the content otherwise correct?

What terms are you using to search? ie the song name, extension type etc

Make sure it's pointed to your root directory in Windows Explorer (the drive letter of the external HDD ie E:\) and use *.mp3 or *.AAC in the search field

Failing that, go through what you did to 'back up' originally and pay attention to the output destination. it may point right to where your files currently are.

And yes, the external drive most certainly needs to be plugged in
