How many computers does everyone own?

I have 4 year old Gateway desktop running XP Home SP2, a 2 year old Gateway notebook running XP Home SP2 that I love, and this brand new piece of junk, Gateway notebook running Vista Home Premium SP1. I hate Vista. It's driving me nuts. Don't ask what help I need because nothing works like I think it should including the lady who is sending this message.

I am not connected wirelessly to my other computers due to a problem with one of them.
My main PC is in specs.

A second PC that I built from old parts, just has an Athlon 5200, 2GB RAM, Geforce 7600.

A Dell Latitude that needs its hinges repairing when I can be bothered to buy some, then I'll use that for general stuff.

And I got a ton of old stuff sitting behind me in my room that I've saved over the years.

Hello Annie,

Welcome to the Vista Forums.

Many of us felt that way when we first started using Vista. I for one was looking for my big hammer. With the help of the folks around here, it wasn't long before I found Vista to be an excellent OS. Very stable for me. There is a lot of good info in the tutorial section and in the forums, and we're always here to help. Give it a chance, it may grow on you as it did on me.

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Hello Annie, just take things slow and persevere and it will all come together. Vista is a very secure and stable OS but does take a little learning curve but once you get the hang of it you'll love it and be glad you have it.

As Gary said there is always someone here to help with any problems you may have no matter how silly they may seem to you, don't forget we've all been there so just ask away and you'll soon have a very happy machine, plus the person who is using it ;)

Thanks Joan. I think my major problem was all the "free trials" that came on it. It has been much nicer since I uninstalled Office. I was getting blue screens which immediately went to black screens and reboots out of the blue. No more of those since I removed Office. Whew. So much nicer. Still lots to learn but maybe it will be easier now.

Thanks Lordbob. It's amazing how many programs can be substituted with another and do a better job.
My husband, a "never touch a computer kind of guy" always asks how much I am paying for all this stuff I talk about.
Thanks for the input.

Well, darn it, it went to the blue screen then the black one again last night and rebooted again. I really thought Office was doing it. Pause doesn't work to read the entire screens so that's no help.
Am I supposed to tap another key along with Pause to top it from going to the next screen?
I tried a screen shot but that didn't work either.

Ideas? Step by step please if you think you can help me.

Okay, I did that and it went off without a hitch. Hallelujah. Now do I expect that to fix the problem or does that just slow the BSOD so I can read the digits when it happens again?

BTW, took me 5 minutes to figure out what BSOD was. :o
