Windows Update is actually still working, according to this from MSFN. I'm sure it won't last forever, but neither will activation.

2. hp dc5100 SFF windows xp pro

in conclusion i use vista almost everyday, i do not have a main pc i use all of them the same way (except games wich i play on the w7 one with core 2 quad), i dont care about end of life or old hardware, i just use it, max out the ram and maintain it (hardwar cleaning, hdd defrag, reg files and temp files cleaning), i dont like windows 10 and never will

I'm die hard Vista and use it everyday as my main system. I use Win 7 for software that can't be run in Vista and to help people with Win 7 and software running on Win 7. On the other hand, I have tried doing things on my friends (now deceased) Win 10 system with Classic Shell and didn't see much to sway me from using it. I have a whole notebook of articles from a computer magazine which discuss things to disable and modify in Win 10 when, if ever, this 11 year old system actually craps out to the point that I need a new one. That means the motherboard has to fail and I can't get an equivalent replacement and I need to use Win 10.

If you have Win 7, then I fail to see any reason to use 3-year-old Opera 36 x86 on Vista x64. But aside from its glaring deficiencies as a web-browsing platform in 2019, I am still very fond of my vintage Vista system.
