how things change

I was just sitting here thinking to myself. how technology has changed so much over the last 20 odd years. before computers started to take a leap forward, Speaking to someone on the phone in another country was expensive, you could write a letter but it would take ages to get a reply, if you was one of the lucky people you may have had a good CB (cobra, susperstar) radio to chat with people from around the world using sidebands. And now I sit here in front of my pc and can chat to people from all over the world.

Amazing huh!!!!! :D

you havn't lost lingo then lol.
I used to sit in my bedroom saying cq the frequency for hours on end. I was one of the lucky ones to own a superstar so could fly round the sidebands. I used to have a map on my wall with pins in it showing all the people around the world I had spoken to.

wasn't it good though :=) it was an expensive hobby to start though. I never wanted just a 40 channel CB I just had to get my hands on a superstar, the thing I didn't realise at the time was if you where going to do sidbanding you needed a frequency counter to go with it lol. Well that was it right if I'm going to do his I have got to do it properly. I ended up with a superstar with over 200 channels a frequency counter, silver eagle mike, a mate modified a milos echo chamber for me. yahoo I was rearing to go. duuuhhhh I forgot about the ariel I only had one in the loft. for months I was sitting there with all this great kit and no decent areal :=(
