how to disable Perfmon...

Anyone, who knows how to disable Perfmon in Vista ?????

I do not need this and it takes to many resources.

Dou you have installed SP1? -If not install it,apart of it install all available hotfixes.See here:The Perfmon.exe process may continuously start and stop when you click the "Resource Monitor" button on a Windows Vista-based computer

Maybe someone else can help you on this one.

I never really bother to learn how to disable it, as I feel the information it gathers is an import problem solving tool. Rather than disabling it, you should strive to increase your system resources?

What are you system specs? Primarily, I'd like to know what CPU you are using, and how much RAM do you have.

well the Asus P5 board, 4096 MB OCZ 1333 MHZ memory, duo core Intel 3 ghz,

Adaptec 5805 controller, 6 OCZ Core SSD v1 in raid0.

The machine is fast enough, but i really want the "Perfmon" only when i want to start it, not when Vista wants it.

I do not plan on adding memory....next year i will change to the I7 Intel, Asus board and faster memory.

In the time I've been waiting for your reply, I've been looking for ways to disable Perfmon, the best I can come up with is this:

1. Press <WINDOWS_KEY>+<R> to open the Run box
2. Type "perfmon", without quotes, and press <ENTER>. You will nedd to respond to a UAC prompt.
3. Under "Monitoring Tools", right-click on "Performance Monitor", them select "Properties"
4. Turn off "Sample Automatically"
5. Click OK

I'm not sure how effective this will be, but it's worth a shot.

While you're at it, downlaod and install Geekbench, then run a benchmark both before and after turning of the Performance Monitor Sample Rate. I don't think you're going to see much of a difference. (http://www.primatelabs.ca/geekbench/)


You could also try to disable the service:

1. Press <WINDOWS_KEY>+<R> to open the Run box
2. type "services.msc", without quotes, and press <ENTER>. You will nedd to respond to a UAC prompt.
3. Right-click on "Performance Logs & Alerts", then select properties
4. Change the "Startup Type" to "Disabled"
5. Click "OK"

I do not believe that the "Performance Monitor" has anything beyond a .001% impact on performance, and running a benchmark will indicate this. And as mentioned before, "Performance Monitor" is a useful diagnostic tool when problem solving, so disabling it could make it alot harder for you to solve other problems further down the road.
