why do nerds/geeks/mathematicians confuse haloween and christmas?

because

31 OCT = 25 DEC

OCT = octadecimal

DEC = decimal

31 octadeicmal = 25 decimal

go convert it on a calculator if u dont get it.

The key is in the word hex:

"I'm reluctant to do mathematical jokes because I'm afraid someone will put a hex on me."

Hex is a small word that has mathematical significance, (see here for some gory details: Hexadecimal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) It derives from Ancient Greek and means six. The joke comes from the modern use of the word as a type of spell, used in works such as Harry Potter and games such as World of Warcraft.

The sentence with the modern meaning makes sense, but hex's other meaning has mathematical significance, thereby making the joke funny (in theory)

Do you need the first joke explaining? Anyway, I really liked both jokes.

Just thought it fair to warn you guys if you go around explaining jokes you'll be forever banned from the STand Up Performer's International Doodad. This could have a negative effect on your residuals, or a residual effect on your negatives. Not sure which. I have to read the charter again. Yeah, I know it's STUPID but that's their specialty.

I was trying to come up with an acronym something like Stand Up Comedian's Klan or something along that line, but it seemed too harsh. I want to get a laugh, not get punched out. :)
