Solved I need help installing MS Office Suite 2006 on Vista

I recently purchased a new HP laptop with Vista basic.....I have a system at home that I have Windows Office Suite 2006 installed on ( XP - OS ) and it works fine.....I installed it on the laptop( which by the way, apparently upgraded itself to 2007...that's what it says on the task launcher screen ) and when prompted for the product key I CORRECTLY entered it and was immediately told it is in invalid code. I still have the original box from when I purchased it with the key right on the box. I uninstalled and re installed with no success....MS wants $49.99 to send me an email...... That's BS as far as I am concerned.....I can purchase a new Office for less than that.....Can someone help me.....shouldn't this program work?? I have only installed it on the one original machine here at home.....I thought the license was good for 3 machines at a time at least.....according to the error message I keep getting - I will only be able to use the program for 5 times w/o registering it.....HELP me PLEASE...my daughter at college is about to have a nervous breakdown and I can't get any work done here until I have this problem solved.......:sa:

I dont think its a vista problem but an office problem. are you sure you are using the right letters and numbers. 0, and "O", l, and "I" can be confusing. if you are sure then it might be because of the upgrade.

One thing that might work is if you re-installed the OS, and then office. It might clear whatever incorreect info there might be in registry

Thanks for a quick reply....the code has NO i 1 o 0in it and yes I did double check my code and entered it several times........sooooo any more ideas??

Im not even sure if the code that refers to the old office that was on the system, is valid for the upgrade. No other MS option than the 49$ to talk to a live person?

I hope someone else has an idea, but other than a clean re-install I cant think of anything.

In the body of your first post you mention Windows Office Suite 2006.
As far as I am aware, [in recent times] there has been MS Office 2003, the next version was 2007 & the new one not yet released is 2010.

MS Money 2006
MS Encyclopedia 2006
MS Streets , trips, pocket streets
MS Streets trips essentials
The box is blue and has the copyright date of 2006

Come on fellas.....I am not a neophyte when it comes to computers.....according to several techs I talked to - it is supposed to work on Vista with no problem.......
The computer operates fine.....the OS DOES NOT need replaced...it's a brand new laptop...it recognizes AND installs the discs without problem.....just will not accept the product key......
I have a sneaky suspicion that MS wants more money for a new key since Vista automatically updated itself after install...........The task launcher opens up identically to my home machine with one small exception: Under the words choose a program it says MS Office 2007 whereas mine does not....

Any ideas or a way to talk to MS for free would be appreciated.....

Ms shouldn't charge you for a key unless your current one has been installed to often, or is not valid. There is no way to force a bad key and even if there was we couldn't tell you about it. We only deal in legit products and legit ways of making them work.

The site doesn't allow and hacking, cracking, key generators etc.

As a matter of interest where did you buy this product? I have also never heard of Office 2006, however if it is second hand and already been installed on another computer, that could be the reason you cannot use it.

What error messages are you getting?

I sorta get the feeling that you've been dudded with a compilation of short-listed programs for XP, some of which may be compatible with Vista. You can check out individual compatibility issues here;

......I did a search for MS Office Suites and it gave 21 pages of different software variants......funny tho'.....no MS Office Suite 2006. There are individual programs, for instance MS Money v11.1 is compatible, MS Money v11 is not.

Personally, I'd bin it and either get yourself MS Office 2007, or wait out for 2010 version. No sense in flogging a dead horse.....

Works has different apps than office. You say that "it upgraded itself" to a new version. can you go into on e of the apps and go to about and find out what version is currently installed.

There's the confusion, this is MS Works, not office. My apologies I should have realised what you were talking about. I was having a moment.

There are some compatibility issues with MS Works and Vista, did you check this out before you purchased the software?

(1)This is not a second hand program - I bought it and installed it ONE time on my home machine where it functions properly.
(2)According to the Vista web site that I checked for compatability....it is suppoesed to work.
(3) If you read my posts carefully - I already mentioned that it apparently upgraded itself to 2007 during the install....
(4) The error message is : product key invalid
(5) And FINALLY - to the person that replied to my post saying :

"Ms shouldn't charge you for a key unless your current one has been installed to often, or is not valid. There is no way to force a bad key and even if there was we couldn't tell you about it. We only deal in legit products and legit ways of making them work.

Allow me to say how insulting your answer and apparent attitude is. First of all, I NEVER asked for a way to bypass anything legal. I DO NOT operate that way and if that's what I wanted - I have enough knowledge between myself and a friend or two to be able to hack anything or bypass codes...etc. I am only looking for the simple solution that will make this product work as it is supposed to.......I have a sneaky suspicion that MS will try to charge me for a new key because it upgraded....
