Solved IconViewer

Hi! I'm Carmine and come from Italy. I love this forum
I've need an help

A. Download and install the free program IconViewer from: Download IconViewer
NOTE: This program will add the Icons tab to files (ex: imageres.dll) that contain a icon library in them so you can see the icons available in it.

On my vista ultimate x64 this application doesn't install... it says:

"Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or newer is required to install this application. Download it from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie"

Now... I have it and I have the last version...
Why it doesn't install?
I need it!

Hello Carmine, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Double check to make sure that you have clicked on the IconViewer 3.02 x64 edition download link for your version of Vista to install.

yes, I've downloaded x64 version... I've also launched it as Administrator!
I have Firefox too maybe that is the problem?

Could be. As a test, make Internet Explorer your default browser program again with all of it's association set to it. Afterwards, see if it will allow you to install it.

Yep, I just clicked on the IconViewer 3.02 x64 edition download and saved it to the deasktop, then installed it without any problems. Strange you would have problems with it.

Hi, I'm back!
I've extract the files from IconViewer3.20-Setup-x64.exe in a folder on the desktop.
If I double click on Setup.exe a pop-up tells me that if I want to install the application I cannot run Setup.exe directly.
So... can you send me the files that setup.exe install on the HD?

Hi Carmine,

Here's a copy of the 64-bit version I am using. Just download and save the ZIP to the desktop, extract the EXE file to the desktop and click on it to install it.

This file is the same of mine so it doesn't install the application
the setup.exe (I think) install some dlls in the windows folder, am I right? So can you post me this dlls?

When you click on the downloaded EXE file, do you get this setup screen?




You do not click on the setup.exe file in C:\Program Files to run the program. Once installed from above, you just right click on the file and click on Properties. If it has available icons for it, you will see a Icons tab.

I must admit that I do not know why it will not install for you since you now have the same file that I used.

The second screenshot is normal since you cannot install it from that setup file in C:\Program Files though.

So my request is: can you post me the files that this application install on the hard disk?

That's the rub though. It's not as simple as just copying them over to your directory. The setup file also changes and adds entries in the registry as well. There's no telling where those may be.

It didn't find any errors or problems... and now? Can I do something more?

EDIT: I've also removed Mozilla Firefox but it doesn't install anymore

It's very very very strange... I have installed Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 and magically I have installed the application too!
I can explain it!
Can you know how it is possible?
