IE 7 will close down if I type in the search bar

Gday

I cannot pinpoint the exact date this first started happening, mainly because I use Firefox for most of my browsing. There are however some sites out there that still do not like Firefox.

So on the rare occasion I am forced to use IE, I click on the icon IE opens, the second I try and type in the search bar it shuts down. I have tried upgrading to IE 8 and the same problem still exists.

I have run my anti virus and also superANTIspyware, to make sure no nasties have made there way in. They both come up clean.

Also if I get an email, that has a URL attached, I can click it open (IE is still my default browser), and it will take me to the page.

But once again the second I try and type something into the search bar wham its gone. and if I try to use ctrl it disappears also.

It never used to do this, I am clean out of ideas as to why this is happening.

I have to date tried :-
Upgrading to IE 8 (no difference)
Rolled it back to IE 7
Reset all the defaults (no difference)
Been to this site How to fix Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close

The first one works when i try regsvr32 wintrust.dll I get an error :- The module "wintrust.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005

I do not know whether this is relevant or not, but I do not have MSN installed.

Hi,

Try this post: http://blogs.dotnethell.it/vincent/Troubleshooting-Windows-Internet-Explorer.__15312.aspx

Please uninstall all of IE that you have installed now. Do not reinstall IE yet. Here are the full details: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090811231323AA4zSN3http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700/en-us

Now, press the Windows Key + R to open the Run dialogue. Type "cmd" and press enter. Go past the UAC prompt if necessary. In Command Prompt, type "sfc /scannow" and press enter. If integrity violations are found, upload the logs. See here for full details: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

Now reinstall IE8. See above.

Run "sfc /scannow" again. Again, upload the new logs.

Download and run HiJackThis and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Run a scan with each, and upload the logs.

Retest IE. What exactly happens when IE closes. Do you get "IE8 has stopped working", just closing or an error. Is there anything showing in Problem Reports and Solutions or the Event Log?

Also, you may like to know that there is a nice Firefox Extension called IETab2. It works amazingly well for these few websites. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/92382

I think I understood it all. I am telling you to check for corrupt files, and provide a log of what could not be fixed, it may be part of one of the dlls required for the search bar, and may fix the wintrust.dll error. (SFC)

I am also asking you to upload a HiJackThis log, as many viruses are hidden until put under the spotlight, and HiJackThis often puts them under the spotlight.

I stand by my original post.

Hi,

Run SFC and my other suggestions but:

Unless your internet connection is set up manually, open HiJackThis, and run a scan only. Put a check next to these entries and fix them:

Code:
O2 - BHO: agcore.AGUtils - {0bc6e3fa-78ef-4886-842c-5a1258c4455a} - mscoree.dll (file missing)

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{76E9574D-70A9-40BE-A733-EE9F1119CC15}: NameServer = 203.50.2.71,139.130.0.44

Do not do the second one if your internet connection is set up manually. Also, this may point to a corruption in the .net Framework.

Reinstall some of the .net Framework. Install all three of these downloads (two are web install, one is not)

Download details: .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)

Download details: .NET Framework 3.5

Download details: .NET Framework 3.5 Service pack 1

Make sure you now do all Windows updates.

Ok done the scannow no errors found, uninstalled and reinstalled the net framework, redid all of the updates. Re ran Hijackthis, checked/ticked the box to remove

O2 - BHO: agcore.AGUtils - {0bc6e3fa-78ef-4886-842c-5a1258c4455a} - mscoree.dll (file missing)

re ran hijackthis, and the problem is still there :(

The only thing I haven't done is delete that particular registry key

Hi,

Run this command from Command Prompt for about ten minutes, then upload file.txt:

dir \wintrust.dll /a h /s > file.txt

Hi,

It searches for wintrust.dll and records in file.txt to location and size of each occurance. If in the WinSXS store, the size is x bytes and in System32 size is y bytes, we know something has become corrupt.

Hi,

Press the Windows Key (bottom left of keyboard) and the R key.

In the Run dialogue, type "cmd" and press enter.

When Command Prompt opens, type: "dir \wintrust.dll /a h /s > file.txt" without the quotes and press enter.

Wait about 10 minutes, them close Command Prompt, and upload or copy-and-paste her the new file.txt on your Desktop.
