OK. Now it is starting to get weird...

Since I last posted, the System Properties System Protection tab finally - after a couple of hours - filled in the Available Disks list. I selected it and created a restore point. Then brought up the system restore panel and selected "Choose a different restore point". There are five restore points including the one I just made, going back to a Windows update on 11/19/2010. That is the only way I know to get a list of available restore points.

So, does this seem normal? I don't mean the long wait to get the ilst of Available Disks - I meant the restore point population.

I prefer to use the laptop as one would use a toaster - without regard for any of the technology inside - to create, manage, update, and share information.
One more thing, when you see the list, bottom left, there is a box check for more dates. Otherwise it seems like its working. Slow, but working.
The population depends on how much space is available for SR to use.

D'oh! OK, I see the rest of them now.

Still have the original problem...
