Intermittent Connection

My connection is intermittent. It happens within a minute or so, sometimes longer. My modem and cable are fine as I have good connectivity with my Xbox. I ran diagnostics, said it repaired but no fix. I truned off my Avast shields and that didn't work either. Can anyone help me with any more steps I can try or tell me if I'm more probably dealing with a hardware issue rather than a software one?

Are you talking about a connection between your computer and the Xbox? If so, how is the Xbox connected- wireless, cable?

Hi, Wither (Using a Mac from a different location now.)

Between my modem and my Xbox with the ethernet cable.

My ISP saw a problem and said it was either my ethernet cable or my PC. I checked the performance of my cable by connecting it to the Xbox so the problem is with my PC. (I have no router.)

Never seen this problem before where my connection works for 10-20 seconds or so, dies for longer than that, than connects again. Can you tell me if this is more likely software or hardware related.

Does Device Manager say your network adapter is working properly?

I'll have to look when I get back home but I tried to have the system fix things and it said it was successful doing something with the network adapter or local adapter, can't remember exactly. I also tried the same process or some other and got the message that things couldn't be fixed and I should call my ISP or something which I can't remember.

Have you tried resetting the console and the modem?

There's no problem between my Xbox console and my modem.

I read you can reinstall the network card driver and I haven't tried Restore which I completely forgot about having not used it in a very long time.

Will be back home today or tomorrow so will see what happens.

Got back home after 2 days away, booted up the modem and PC (which I cut the power to) and there's been no problem for over an hour. If anyone has an idea why the issue is gone I'd like to hear. Can't say I'm confident the problem wont recur but at present things are working.

It was probably an ISP issue. (My former cable provider's motto was, "The customer is always wrong.") Or the modem may have been too hot.

The only problem with that is the modem was working fine with my Xbox.

After my first call where the rep told me it was either a cord or PC issue (she could see a light blinking red and green) I called back with the cord plugged into my Xbox and asked a different rep to tell me his readout. He told me he could see no problems which I expected since the Internet was working fine with the Xbox. When I told him to hang on and plugged the cord into my PC he said he could see that light blinking red and green. So the issue seemed to stem from my end not theirs.

I will say that about two years ago or more I couldn't connect at all and was told it was probably on my end which I disputed as nothing was showing on his end to so conclude so I hear what you're saying.
