Is someone using my computer

----------The past couple days something strange has been going on. I came to my computer today and the start menu was open. But what really bothered me was that little noise you get when you click on something, or whatever, and then certain icons would flash.

Then I opened Firefox and I started getting that dinging noise again and the web page would go clear to the bottom. I would bring it back to the top and it would go right back to the bottom. Then I noticed something in -that Google search bar that is on the top of pages-. It was as if someon-e- were typing in it as dashes were being filled in-. It's happening right now on this page- I'm typing. -Where you see the dashes, I -am not inserting them-. They are appearing all by- themselves. -------------------------- in fact they are coming so fast and furious right now -I can barely type- anything. --------- ------------------Can anyone -help with th-is-?------

Now I discovered if I click on page 2 of my search results it will go to page 2, then jump back to page 1. This is getting more and more serious. Please help!-

I just finished a FULL scan with Avast Internet Security 6. I schedule a full scan every day with it. And as I type I am doing a full scan with Malwarebytes.

The dinging on my desktop is really getting constant. It's that sound like when you close something down. Now so far, I'm not getting any dashes since I logged back into t-his forum. Oops. Spoke too soon. I'm going to be gone for a bit and by the time I get back Malwarebytes should have completed. -I will g-et back to you wh--e--n it finishes.

Thank you. That makes me feel a lot better-. I tried again to do a search and then go to different pages. It will make the switch but then switches right back.

Let me know the results of the Malwarebytes scan and we will go from there. Malware is not my area of expertise, but I have access to one of the best in the field.

Most security experts will ask for a HijackThis log so we'll save a bit of time and do it before she (I'm assuming you've called Jacee) gets here.

Download and install HijackThis from here:

Click the Do a system scan and save a log file button

Attach the log with your next post

Try a different keyboard.

Good possibility its a sticky connection from a um "Late night surfing" ;)

But seriously, if its a repeated key its a screwed connection..... If it is a hacker.... unplug the network cable/disconnect from the network will stop it.

rich46: Malwarebytes found nothing. I am attaching the log anyway.

tom982: I don't know who Jacee is. I have downloaded HiJackThis and I will run it as soon as SUPERAntiSpyware finishes running. Since neither Avast or Malwarebytes found anything I decided to go ahead and run a full scan with SUPERAntiSpyware also. After I have run the HiJackThis I will include it here.

Patonb: I did just get a new Logitech keyboard/mouse combo. That's been 7-10 days ago and this problem I'm encountering just started the past 2 or 3 days. Right now I'm not getting the dashes and I'm not hearing that dinging sound. I also just did a search and right now I'm able to go to the next results page without it fipping back on me. I don't know why that would be since Malwarebytes didn't find anything. As soon as my scan finishes I will try disconnecting.

Sorry -- I forgot to attach the Malwarebytes log.

I also forgot to mention that when I came back to my computer to find that Malwarebytes had completed, the calculator was open on my desktop so I don't know how that happened. Except when my grandson visits and I sit with him while he plays his games, no one uses this computer but me. I don't go to any type of smut sites unless it's by accident, and I am very conscientious about trying to keep my machine protected and clean.

Can you try your old keyboard again?

I really think its a keyboard issue, even though it was fine for 7 days... Something may have dropped into it by accident.

The dinging is possibly the key being pressed too many times or something.

I need help before I can go further. I am supposed to run HiJackThis as administrator, but that option is gone from the context menu. As near as I can tell, this is the only file where I do not have the option to "run as administrator." I am attaching two screenshots of windows I received while running HiJackThis.

PLEASE HELP?

By the way, SUPERAntiSpyware found 3 cookies.

I can't. When I right click there is no option to "run as administrator," and as I said before, I've checked around in my programs and files and that HiJackThis seems to be the only item that doesn't provide this option.

Sorry that comment about Jacee was more directed at Rich, she's the usual malware removal person.

Can you do the following for me please:

Definitely sounds like a faulty keyboard. Is it a wireless one - if so replace the battery? As suggested earlier try a different (wired) keyboard and a different USB port. The clicks and dings depend on which program you have open. They are usually caused by an invalid entry.

This is not the behaviour of any virus I have come across.

There is a possibility that you have a wrong keyboard driver, but that also seems unlikely.

In my experience, there's nothing wrong with being overly careful when malware is in the question. If it is malware and we didn't pursue it then potentially the OP could have passwords stolen etc. It's just not a risk I think we should take.

I'll agree it's one strange virus if it is one! The inability to run something as an admin is a bit suspicious.

Here is another strange thing. If I just come to this forum and click on my topic post, the latest answers are not visible to me. Only by opening the email notification and clicking on the link in there am I able to be brought to your latest replies and post an answer.

Now, as to RSIT, I have the same problem as with HiJackThis. I CAN NOT run it as administrator as instructed. Here is a screenshot of what I get. I have never run into this before. I have run the application HiJackThis before and had no problem. I am no longer getting the dinging sounds and the dashes added to things, etc. It seems to have disappeared, but now I have this problem with running, at least these two applications (HiJackThis and RSIT) as administrator.
