not to change the topic but,if your not sure about your psu,at least get a 350-400watt psu and call it a day.

good luck:)
that's is what i'm looking for right now. I'm going to try to find a 400W so I can get this card instead:
KFA2 Galaxy GeForce 9600 GT Video Card - 512MB DDR3, PCI Express 2.0, DVI, HDTV, Low Profile 96GFF6VIFCXX at TigerDirect.com

Hi Vista_32bit...

thank god your not buying an 8400, i wouldn't wish one of those on my worst enemy..

the 9600 is a great little performer & requires minimal power to run, not to mention the fact that it TOTALLY DESTROYS the 8400 in every way.

Well if your gonna get your card through tiger direct, get your psu also from them Corsair CX400W Power Supply - 400-Watt, 120mm Fan, SATA-Ready, 80Plus, ATX CMPSU-400CX at TigerDirect.com)

Already been discussed in his other thread,

http://www.vistax64.com/graphic-cards/196641-inspiron-531s-low-profile-video-card.html

and a standard ATX power supply won't fit in his slim case; needs to be a SFX power supply.
I need a MicroATX supply.

What about the 9400GT it requires 350W rather than the 9600 400W

ummmm for the record, i use the 8400gs. although i do agree its not the greatest card it still has its uses. i bought it when it first came out and definitely had fun using it for like doom3 and WOW. nowadays there are cards that would just murder this card, which is why ive been looking for a new one. fortunately i just picked up XFX's nVidia 8200 hybrid sli board so this card definitely still has some use afterall :)

lol..... mate, please have a look at this thread... :(

8400GS is a horrid gaming choice, go with the 9600 or your forever doomed to use 1280x1024 / low settings, on everything.....

as time rolls on the 8400 will be even less capable than it already is...

but all we can do is suggest!!

believe me ive been looking into the market for a new card....but it all comes down to budget. i would like to get the xfx 9800gtx+ but that requires me to get another psu, which means im just going to start a new build since i already have the new mobo. i dont want to half ass it like hp i brought back to life. so i guess ill just have to do without graphics that make my eyes bleed till there are some more dead presidents in my wallet.

money management has never been my strong suit.....it burns a hole in my pocket :(

It will work, but it is even slower than the 8400GS.

It would almost be easier to buy a decent and cheap full size case, a decent power supply, and migrate everything over to it. At least that way you won't be severely limited in video card options; a normal sized case opens it up to as much as your wallet will allow.

The VisionTek one has a faster core clock and has HDR, but the 8400GS doesn't

Video Card Comparison - GPUReview.com

You try enabling HDR with that 2400 in a game that supports it and you would probably be looking at FPM (frames per minute) instead of FPS.
