Lastest version of Avast antivirus

I noticed Avast was sending information using my internet connection. It was not updating (as far as I know) does Avast send and receive info at times besides updating the iAVS? Is there any other communicating Avast does? I was shocked to see so much info being uploaded (not downloaded). I'm sure it's normal but what is it doing?

Hi Nate,

A assume what you are seeing is the request for update or something similar - basically the local software asking "Hello I've got version x anything newer?". I doubt it's anything suspicious as all downloads have to contain a certain amount of "up" traffic

My connection is 1.5MB and it was using all of that for 3-4 minutes. That's a lot of information. I will get a screen shot if it happens again. Thanks for the response Barman. I'm sure it's part of the program. There are a couple of similar cases on the Avast forums. Not much resolution though.

That does seem a little excessive, you may want to check out on the avast site and see if it is mentioned on the forums there

I dont know whats happening but my avast antivirus is not updating itself. It tries to update and says Retrying and the loop continues. What's wrong?

Have you tried manually updating Avast (!AVS Update in right click Updating option) to see if will then?

I think my internet is was slow last night. I will try once i reach home.
But i did not try the !AVS update, i tried program update instead.

All done and dusted, and running sweetly. I can only thank Windows Live OneCare's pulling out of the Market, for avast! sitting on my system. Never looked back since Day 1. :D

....and the link to an interesting post. However, because of the highlighted qualified statement in it, Quote; Hence, it is not recommended to use this beta as a tool to protect your system. Can't give you a changelog, as I don't think they put one out publicly for these betas. Besides, couldn't find it even if they did.



Also, it looks like they are making avast 5.0 to play nice with MSE side by side, which is kind of interesting. I believe from this beta version on...
