Hey Everyone, Im new to this Forum, so HELLO Anyways, Iv have just recently bought a new Laptop, an HP Pavilion dv9000 Entertainment Edition, Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5ghz, 2gb ram, 240gb HDD, nVidia GeForce 8600m GS, with a fresh format of Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit version. Which brings me to my question(s), I have my Home Theater System(Sanyo 500w 5.1), which I have my laptop connected to it via a Y-Splitter, from the headphone jack on my laptop, to an available channel on my receiver. So my problem is, my laptop is only putting out Stereo 2 channel sound, and iv look everywhere, and tried MANY solutions on trying to get the 5.1 working. I am using Realtek HD Audio Manager, and under "Speaker Configuration", the box where you can select different settings, the box is "Grayed out", and stuck on Stereo. Iv Googled MANY solutions, but none of which have solved my problem. Iv installed, and un-installed Realtek HD Audio Manager many many of times, and I still cannot chose my Speaker Configuration. So any help would be MUCH appreciated Here are some pictures of what I have, and my problem. Last picture would be what it should look like

Hi! Before I begin: fantastic forums! Why didn't I discover this earlier?!

I've had so much trouble with Realtek drivers, with the Audio Manager disappearing. Never thought to install it TWICE. Anyways, I'm fully updated to 1.88. I have two questions:

1. I am using an ASUS P5N-E SLI, which has 6-channels plus a S/PDIF coaxial out. So, I'm wondering if my motherboard is having some issues. Here is what it currently looks like:



Now, how come I don't see my digital out on the right, like this fellow?



Have I done something wrong? Do I need something plugged in for them to show up? I have the digital output tab, just not the little icons.

2. This one is a bit more complicated. I have a USB microphone (in the monitor), but it doesn't seem to show up in Realtek's Audio Manager. Is that right? I want to adjust the Microphone Boost, but I can't, apparently.

I cannot remember if the ZIP download contains a copy or not, but you can download README for the release notes.

I've downloaded the driver update 1.89 from realtek HD audio

I'am running Windows Vista Ultimate

the speakers are working just fine

but i don't have any detection when i plug my headphone in! but i get sound out of it and my speakers !

how can i get that detection? (it's also with the microphone)

Hi Jerre,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

When you open the Realtek HD Audio Manager in the Control Panel (classic view), click on the yellow folder icon in the upper right corner. Check both boxes in the Connector Settings window. You should now see the detection pop-up when you plug things in.

well i did what you told me!

but i don't get a message when i plug in my headphones

the only thing that change is that the 2 buttons of the frontpanel lichts up
nothing changed for the rest!
what do i need to do ?

Ok Jerre,

When you open the Realtek HD Audio Manager, click on the Device advanced settings link in the top right corner. Make sure that Mute the rear output device, when a front headphone plugged in is dotted blue. This should allow the sound to only come out of the headphones when plugged into the front input.

Check to make sure that Tie up same type of input jacks, ..... is also dotted blue in the same location to.

first 2 Check marks and Check mark in Enable Base Managemet this will Imporove sound


with out it it sounds like Tinny crap speakers.



do the room distances with speakers set them all to max this also helps as well.

use this driver that came with you're Computer Like The techsuport guys said from HP don't mess with profection don't fix whats not broke the driver to replace this takes out all the feature that came with you're computer he don't don't load it stay with the one with you're hp computer and please do the propper settings this should help if not call HP they will help you and tell you what I'm telling you is the same thing.


remeber this a lOw greade sound card HP manifactures installed in you're computer my advice change it and get an External sound card that will Match you're system.

Wicked! I just wish nVidia churned out drivers like Realtek! You'd think a graphics card was more important than integrated sound. I'm actually very proud of Realtek; glad I didn't spring for Creative-hell. You know the message I get when I tried to put my card in? "Please insert a Creative card in your computer before installing this driver. Setup will now exit." :D
