Hi, andym900, and welcome to the forums.

No, and no.

Did you by chance save them in your Digital Locker?

You might want to call them.

Digital locker is built into some (perhaps all, not sure) versions of Vista - basically it will take your key ans store it online. Once you get a new version of Vista running, see if you can get that key back from the online source - do it soon, Digital Locker closes in Aug 09.

Also, I cannot help you with this any further as *I* have no way of knowing whether you're really talking about your own hardware or not - and I am certainly not going to help decrypt a HD that might end up belonging to someone else, nor am I going to *attempt* to do so for free. Mind you I am not calling you a liar - I am just saying that I don't even know you, much less have no way of verifying it.

There are plenty of data recovery solutions online, you'll have to find them and contact them yourself.

I told you - search online for *data recovery* sites - you'll find lots of places that have advertisements of what they can and cannot do.

However, since you encrypted the drive, and were using Vista, I am pretty sure that the encryption technology, when you enable it, *asks* you if you want to make a backup of the key - that is the digital locker thing I was referring to. If you did that then all you have to do is go to that site, enter your previous login and password and your key is waiting there for you.

If you didn't do that, I am not suite sure how you got that drive encrypted - my understanding is that it is a *requirement* when you use the encryption feature of Vista....

I believe so - actually, though, start by trying to encrypt a new drive, and go through the prompts there - it should then ask you to log into your Digital Locker account, where it should *then* tell you that you already have a key there and ask if you want to use it or not....

If you used the built in encryption in Vista and you do not have a key or recovery cert, then it is IMPOSSIBLE to recover any files. Not even the "cops" or any forensic company can crack the files.

This happened to me ONE TIME and it will never happen again!!!

In the future you may want to consider a online backup solution. I use IDrive. You get 2GB free storage and you could store your keys their. For $49.00 a year you get 150GB of storage....plenty for the typical home user.
