Microphone on Vista Sounds Muffled

I was just on Ventrilo Talking to people and skype also and they said that my microphone sounded muffled . SO i called the echo test service for skype and heard that it was . It sort of sounds like im in a tunnel and or have something blocking my mouth . Can anyone help me with this . It has only started this when i switched to windows vista 32 Bit I was on Xp before hand Please help me quick i need this resolved

Hello Rob141 and welcome to the forums

Try this:

Uninstall Driver

1. Open the start menu
2. In the search box, type Device Manager and open it
3. Expand the Sound, video and games controllers category by clicking on the little + sign
4. Right click on everything in there and select Uninstall
5. Reboot your computer after that finishes

Hi Tom . I was on the phone with Dell Technical support and I have gotten them to do all that remotely . I uninstalled all the drivers and anything that has to do with sound . They are still not working .. Im goin to try and install a couple of audio codecs and some other software that i have on my other hard drive to see if that works

Nope Still hasn't worked . Now the sound is completely shot .. All I can hear is static coming out not even muffled

That's not very good What codecs did you install?

Ive installed all the codecs and found out that it wasnt the codecs at all It is the microphone port on the back of the computer Just not gonna worry about it now going to build my own computer Thanks for the help tho
