Solved Monitor Shuts off

Hey, I originally posted this problem in the gaming forum but I am realizing it isn't specific to that. My problem is seemingly after 20 minutes my monitor turns off, and the computer stays on, and if I move my mouse it will come back on.

Now I have check the obvious solution of the power plan option that turns off your monitor after a certian amount of time. I tried setting it to never, and it didn't fix it. I then tried setting it to 45 minutes, and it also didnt fix it. It still shuts off after 20 minutes of no keyboard/mouse input. I am also not using a screen saver.

Does anyone know of any other hardware/software that might be turning my monitor off after 20 minutes like this, or is this a possible larger issue? I am using a radeon hd 4850, and I have a Asus P5Q pro turbo motherboard.

Did you try to set it using advanced settings? click "more power options" > "change plan settings" > "change advanced power settings"> "display" > "turn off display after"

Just updated to service pack 2 and fully updated vista. My graphics drivers are up to date, and my monitor driver is up to date.. still turns off after 20 min.

So I just set the monitor to turn off after 1 minute through the power option setting. I noticed that when the monitor shuts off through the power option setting it fades to black over about a second, and then goes into sleep mode. When the monitor turns off by itself after 20 minutes it immediately goes to black and switches to sleep a few seconds after. I am thinking this might be an indicator of something else shutting off the monitor.

Have you checked the vga output?

I can almost gaurentee it has nothing to do with the screen because i use a hdtv as a clone monitor often to play games with a 360 controller (like bioshock/assasins creed) and both the monitor and the HDTV turn off at the same time. So it must be something computer hardware/software related.

Its probably your psu. Are you using a cheap OEM psu? I wouldn't advise one ever.

It is not the PSU.
Have you looked at any settings in your BIOS?
What graphics card are you using.
Have you got any third party GFX software such as NVIDEA control panel.
Look in your task scheduler to see if there is anything that may be causing it.
Look at your screen saver in the power options.

I have checked bios, but i couldnt find anything responsible for turning off just the monitor. I am using an ati radeon hd 4850, it comes with catalyst control center, and i have checked that but have found no mention of a power saving option that would shut off the monitor. Its not the screen saver- not using one.

GAHH!! i found it! I guess i didnt check my motherboard's power saving program thoroughly enough, but the asus epu-6 engine has a setting for shutting off the monitor after 20 minutes .

I am having the same issue, only I dont use any utilitys like EPU-6 or anything to manage power.

Windows 7 keeps reverting the monitor shut off, randomly, back to 20 minutes.

really aggrivating.
