Need girlfriend help!!--pc locked on login page!!

Please help guys-- she locked her pc on login page and doesnt remember user name!! she knows pass but not username. cant access start page or anything. gettin ready to deploy and need to see webcam!! please help!! thanks. mike

Hello Mike, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might see if you can boot into Safe Mode to see what the username is.


If not, then boot to the command prompt, then type in bold below:

• C: and press enter
• cd\users and press enter
• dir and press enter

You should see the C:\Users\(user name) folder listed for the user name. Afterwards, you can restart the computer and log in hopefully.

I am Mike's girlfriend, which as you know I don't live near Mike. But I got on my office computer, to try to get help on getting past the windows log in.
I am on another computer.
I brought a computer from my dad with Vista Ultimate in Dec. 2008.
Well due to a few people being near my computer when I am not around it, I wanted to lock it so no one could accesss my information.
I am the only person who is on it, I don't even have the guest account open, I am the administrator.
The problem I have is, I put a password on my computer for the windows log in, but I don't know the screen name.
I asked my dad what it could possibly be, he laughed and said he don't know because he never locked the computer.

How do I bipass the windows log in, I don't know the screen name?
Or how do I even get on my computer?
I went to safe mode and it still asks for log in information.

I even took the battery off the motherboard for a few hours and put it back on, it still went right to the log in information after I set the time.

If I push F8 repeatally, it will take me to a screen so I can get to safe mode. Well no matter what option I pick, a screen takes me right back to a log in screen. I JUST CAN'T GET PAST THAT.

Hi Alison,

If it's the username - Shawn's suggestion will do the job - for a password ( in case you ever need it )

You can d/l this

PCLoginNow, Download PCLoginNow

burn it straight to cd with this ( don't format the cd- if autoplay pops up, just close it )

View attachment boot-cd-iso (2).zip

Boot in from the cd you create with it, it finds all the installed o/s (probably only one in your case ). Highlight it and Next, it finds the accounts, highlight the one you want and Next. Tick the password is empty and Next, select No if it asks if you want to do anything else.

Restart.

I'm not sure which part did not work for you.

If you do not have a retail (not OEM recovery) Vista installation disc, then this tutorial will show you how to create a boot disk on the computer that you are on now so that you can use it to boot to the System Recovery Options screen on your computer to select to start to the command prompt to use the instructions posted above.

As soon as I get a new CD rom put into my computer, I will TRY out the suggestion you given me. I really hope it will work.:huh:
I did try all different possible screen name with my password. And a weird thing happened. I put in Main computer as the screen name, with my password, and it went to the load up page for about 30 seconds, then went back to the windows log in page saying wrong screen name or password. I know, that is weird.
I currently have my power cord unplugged and the battery taken off the motherboard.

It didn't work.
I must first get past the windows log in. Without doing that, it won't let me do anything.
I've tried two different screen names that put the Windows log in to a page that said welcome, while it was trying to boot. But then it would go back to the windows log in screen and said wrong pscreen name or password.

If I didn't have so much important stuff on there, I'd reformat it. Which then I'd have to go buy a new OS disk. Because my dad, in another state, didn't give me one for this computer.

I am at my wits end on this stuff.
I know it was a dumb thing to lock the computer, but I needed to.
Now I am without a computer.

Hopefully within 24 hours, I can get it back up and running for me.

Any help would be appreciated.:D

Allison, where you able to create the boot disk that you can use to bypass this to see what the user name is?

I think I created a disk from another computer. But the disk won't boot my home computer.
I even went to F2 when I rebooted the sytem to have it boot from the cd-rom, it just didn't work.

You might try making another DVD to see if the first one was just a bad burn.
