Hello Xufos66, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I updated the download to include the full .txt key entry from the registry. Try downloading it again with this new version to see if that can restore it for you.

Shawn

You're welcome Xufos66,

I'm happy to hear that did the trick. Thank you for the feedback.

Shawn

Thankyou SO MUCH!
I was loving this forum enough, for fixing all my errors, then I realise my txt document has gone, :o.
But I found this post, I LOVE YOU! It worked perfect!

thanks Brink same prob with text doc here....was there a screwed update released recently? seems vista is acting weird for the past week/s. (its my good work pc...no crap installed)

You're welcome BleepingCrazy. That last security KB958644 update had been reported to cause a few issues for some folks.

Thankyou, the txt file fix worked for me too. I thought it didn't work at first but all good after a reboot. I think the culprit for me was CS4. That was the last thing I remember installing and I'm sure I could do this before installing CS4.

Thanks again.

You're welcome Walter Jnr., and welcome to Vista Forums. Thank you for posting back your results and possible cause.

Thank you very much for these reg keys!

I restored the textdocument option with your key to "New" context menu item. Worked great, though it should be emphazid that you need to completely "cold"reboot your machine..

Thanks again..

Hi, i´m new to the forums. I´m missing the txt file in my context menu, the reg file didn´t work. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance. Mike

Hello Mike, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Did you restart the computer after applying the reg file?

If you did, then you can do a System Restore using a restore point dated before it went missing to fix it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

hi, yes i did a reboot, didn´t work. In fact i have no restore point, otherwise i had already used it :( Any idea where i can start?

Mike,

See if the reg file in this ZIP folder will work for you. It includes more default registry entries for TXT files.

View attachment TXT.zip < Click to Download

If it does not help, then you might see if running a sfc /scannow can find and fix any bad system files that may be responsible.

hi, thank you so much, this new reg file worked perfectly :)
By the way can you recommend any lecture on the registry?
I really want to know it better, so i don´t have to bother you guys here in the forum
with my problems ;)

"I tried your method and it did not work for me. I only show (Empty) when I right click to make a New Folder. This happen before and I had to restore to make it reappear. I have restored but perhaps not far enough back. HELP!"
