Does this tutorial actually work? I always thought an NTFS partition was encrypted?
If this does work I can turn my bootable USB key into the mega hacker:sarc:.

Try it and see if you can see your files...Windows Log-in passwords are easily circumvented. Dont rely on that to protect your data. Use encryption.

I use ERD Commander from Sysinternals to bypass login passwords...UBCD4WIN is a awsome project that creates a XP LiveCD with all and any programs you like, it also comes with circumvention tools to bypass encypted drives or passwords...

UBCD4WIN is the best

UBCD4Win can view EFS encryted files if you compile it with the "A" plugin, its illegal though.

I think we should creat a new thing, vista the open security.

XP is way more open than Vista.... If you use bitlocker not one of any methods will work, not one BootCD or utility can read Vista but everything can read XP ;)

How does it get the decryption key in Vista x64?

Im not sure about VistaX64 since I havnt used it it awile but it gets the key from the unencrypted partition EFS/Bitlocker creates to load the bootcode

Bitlocker doest store the key in the boot partition. Either tpm chip, or usb thumbdrive (or both)

Bitlocker doest store the key in the boot partition. Either tpm chip, or usb thumbdrive (or both)

You might want to recheck your statement, The whole idea of a TPM is to store encyption keys...Bitlocker allows you to also set the USB drive as the location for encrpytion keys via group policy (there is a Tutorial here about using a USB drive instead of a TPM)

From the Windows Help File "BitLocker typically uses the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip in your computer to store the keys that are used to unlock the encrypted hard disk"

the key for the encrypted drive is also stored on the Windows drive for booting the Windows partition or USB drive if set via group policy ;)

Dont take offence but I do know how security devices, tools and software are designed and how they are used, security anaysis and penetration testing are one of my specialitys...Just ask John (z3r010) or Shawn (Brink) about my recent TV appearance about such issues

You misunderstand-
I wrote that it doesnt store the key in the boot partition. Either TPM or usb thumbdrive (or both) [is where the key is stored]. Maybe I should have made myself clearer.:o I thought the period at the end of the first part of the statement set them apart.
