Newbie fails 1st day

Hi,
I am a very new pc user.I set up my brand new pc,an Acer Aspire M-1800 today which has windows vista premium.I agreed to terms and conditions,was asked to pick a user name,I did,then I was asked to pick a password I did that.I went to re-enter my password,it said wrong user name or password.My user name is displayed above the box where it says enter my password.I am sure I have the password right,but I assume windows wins this one.The bottom line is I cannot get past this point.Being so new I did not know you were to make a password reset disk,until I clicked on reset password.Can someone help me .Its really embarrsing to have this on the 1st time I tried to use it.Thanks,cayn

1. Try typing in the password with the caps on. Passwords are case sensitive.

2. Since this is a brand new installation, you can reinstall the OS again.

I don't think option 3 will work since he hasn't created a reset disk yet.

Since you stated this is the first boot of the machine, I'm going to assume you dont have any personal files or settings. If I'm correct you can system restore to factory settings this time do NOT set a password. If you choose to set one later, after this set-up, please,write it down.

Shutdown the computer, after it is completely off, turn it back on and begin tapping F11, this will take you to the system recovery screen. Follow the on screen instructions to guide you to enjoying your laptop.

I actually find that much more useful. I also recommend that method instead of actually creating a reset disk

OK I cannot reinstall windows,you are right Crucial,I have not made recovery disc.How could I have,I was locked out by my forgetting my password,which is a password I have used before and never have forgotten,I will try it with Caps Lock on,but I think I have done that too.Its worth a shot,for sure.OK,its F11,and then sytem recovery.One question,the password I set,is that the administrators password set by default?If so,and it still will not accept my password,what on earth do I do next?I wento to acer.com.au which is their site and saw the samething,just what you told me.They also said "acers recovery enviornment" needs a password,and if the password is forgotten or wrong,they are not responsible and a fee will apply.I assume by this statement of theirs,and it might be a silly assumption,that acer support,besides sending the maching back to Victoria,has a way to tell me how to start this machine with password of their own?Is this a way out thought?I don't know really,I'm going to try this tomorrow AM,which would be your PM as I am all the way in Tasmania Australia,a long way away from both of you gentleman.I hope things work out and I will post my experience trying to get things going for my new lovely computer.Thanks,cayn(I was so disgusted and upset when I posted this I spelt my own name wrong,its missing an"r"after the "a" and before the "y",so I'm a she.Thanks.
PS .There is nothing I have put on my machine as of yet,and thank goodness I have a laptop as well,the machine I am writing about is a desktop.oh well.......to be continued.

If you can boot into safe mode with command prompt, type net user administrator /active:yes and press enter. That might allow you to change your account.

Sounds good. I haven't even seen the past few commands you've been issuing.

But the NT editor isn't that hard. Just have to follow instructions. Precisely.

Hi acer support suggests this:turn the machine on press alt and keeping tappingf10 until acer recovery enviornment appears when asked for a password try to type mine in,or type 000000..They want to see if it is software problem?Then I am to get back to them with the results.They say this "will " work,will take 45 mins to 1 hr.I imagine I am reinstalling windows?I KNOW I typed the correc password in.MS makes you type it twice,correct?I am not that silly as to type in the wrong password twice,then entering the same password that windows accepted is invalid?I just do not get this:sa:

I posted something that acer support told me to do.Turn the machine on,pres alt+f10 repeatedly until acer recovery enviornment appears.It will ask for my password,they suggest trying the password that has been rejected,or type in 000000.then it should take 45mins to 1 hr for windows to be reinstalled.When I registered my machine with them they asked for serial number SNID number(I think thats the initials) and my password.which is the same on the Windows is rejecting as invalid.This is a software check ,then if that does not work,they will pick he pc up and do what they know to do to fix it.I am having a really hard time thinking put the wrong password in.Weirdly enough once or twice the ps appeared to have accepted my password the screen changed to Windows Vista Premium,then it rejeceted my pssword as invalid.What the heck is that?

Yes,I am sure it was the correct password.I did as acer recommended and my pc is in full working order now.At this point,I am not connected to the net,so I did not create a password yet.When I am online I will,and I will save it somewhere.Thanks for everything,and everyone else who tired to assist me:DIts over!

Oh my,
You are writing to a Newbie here.In plain English,what on earth is a macrium reflect free image.Yes me computer is completely clean.There is nothing on it except what Acer has installed.
PS I have an issue with this laptop with windows live/hotmail sending out these very strange emails to all of my contacts,with some sort of link on them.Not good,where shall I post and try and get help?
Do tell me what you mean,and if you are talking about a process,how do you do this.Thanksconfused:

An image is an exact image of your pc. Exact. As a backup. I'd scan with Malwarebytes if emails are being randomly sent, although your account could have been hacked. My contact details are in my profile if you need them. 7 is coming in 8 days.

Yes I will create a backup,for sure.This has been a good lesson learnt for me,maybe someday I will progress from newbie to semi-newbie?
