i have just purchased vista via a download from thier site. I have a 500gb hdd which i would like to do a clean install, but when going through the install after selecting custom install a screen appears so you can select which drive you wish to install vista on, but i would like to format my drive before installing vista but there is no disk option os i can create, delete, or format my hard drive.

does anyone know why the option is not there?

Hello Leevoce, and welcome to Vista Forums.

What type of Vista installation disk is this? For example: OEM, Retail, Upgrade, Recovery, etc.......

What site did you download this from?

If you downloaded from your computer manufacturer's website, then it most likely will most likely be a OEM version that will only do a clean formatted install anyway.

Strange Leevoce,

I do not know why you would not see the Drive options (advanced) in the screenshot under step 10 then. It looks like a full retail version to me from the link you provided.

i have a rampage formula motherboard, and i have installed a clean install of vista on my new hdd but when i try booting from my new hdd a message displays saying reboot from media device and restart pc, but i have vista os, and also in bios i have set the boot sequence to boot from new drive but the above message comes up, and then if i connect my other hdd which also has vista on it then a dual boot screen compes up and it will then let me select to boot from my old or new hdd,

do you know why this is?

Hi leevoce,

What is the make and model number of your motherboard? It could be nothing more simple than you having to provide the appropriate storage drivers.

Hi leevoce,

Here is a link to the downloads page for your motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- You will need to select your OS in order to continue. The category you will require is Chipset. You can download these and place the files on a USB stick (if they are compressed, expand them first). You can then access the files at the appropriate point in installation.
