Solved No Sound -- PLEASE HELP

Hi, I need help with my windows vista sound. My sound was working perfectly and all of a sudden on my next start-up my volume icon (speaker) on the screen bottom tool bar has a red X. I have no sound at all. When I right click it I get " windows audio service not enabled" then I get a message that states "would you like to enable windows audio service" I click yea and nothing happens.

I checked the drivers and they are ok, I completed the restore...set to before the problem occurred and still no luck. I ran the microsoft fix it program and it was not able to fix the problem. I got a message "not fixed" message "Both the windows audio and the windows audio end point builder services must be running for audio to work correctly. At least one of the services isn't running". I went to services and found both windows audio & windows audio endpoint builder and this is the info in services:

windows audio: auto: on
windows audio: status: blank
I then highlighted windows audio and the side bar opened: "start the service" I clicked start : this is the message I got "windows could not start the windows audio service on local computer" then the next message "error 1068: the dependency service or group failed". Could this be the problem?

windows audio endpoint builder: automatic: on
windows audio endpoint builder: status: started
It appears that the windows audio endpoint builder is ok.

I'm not sure if the window audio is the problem? Looks like this may be the issue?

Next I tried,

I opened "Fix It" and went to "Diagnose & Repair Sound". While running the Fix It program stopped and the message stated "an error occurred while trouble shooting". Error code 0X80070002. I have no idea what this is...any ideas?

I tried to create another account and the sound still does not work.

I also installed Vista with the disk that came with the computer. It installed and the sound did work, but nothing else would work. The old Vista was still there and this task of installing Vista again filled up my memory. I un-installed the new download of Vista and still can't get my sound to work.

Any advice....I'm at my wits end with this.

MMCSS Not Working? Audio RED X

Hi, I have been having problems with my audio not working. I have been dealing with this for a few days now.....I'm trying not to re-install windows vista. After reviewing a ton of info.....I'm now sure my audio problem is with the multimedia class scheduler service (MMCSS). The MMCSS is a dependency of windows audio. When I checked MMCSS in services I found that in services under description MMCSS has a "FAILED". When I try to start the service I get an error "could not start on local computer -- error 193: 0xc1". I would then right click on MMCSS in services and hit refresh....nothing happens. I then right clicked and clicked on properties: I got "configuration manager: general internal error occurred". So it looks like my audio RED X problem lies with the MMCSS.

I reviewed different threads on the internet and some say to remove MMCSS, reinstall Vista, Re-install sound cards?, and a bunch of other ideas. I'm sure which way to go with this......and advice? I have a dell laptop / inspiron 1545 Vista 32 bit. I appreciate any advice.

Have you tried to update your Audio driver?
It's the least hassle to start with and it cures a lot of problems.

Thanks for the response. Yes....did try that.....no luck. Will this be painful?

Update....tried everything possible and no luck. Re-installed Windows Vista.....sound now works! Thanks for all the effort.

Problem solved.....I had to re-install windows vista.
