ntkrnlpa.exe missing PLEASE HELP

Hi, my sons laptop is running vista, some reason it just came up with \windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe is missing.
i did not make a reboot disc (silly me i know now) i have tried to do a complete reboot from start but im still getting the same message

what can i do as i did buy a reboot disc from some one on ebay but that dont seem to do any thing.

PLEASE PLEASE can some one help, i have read other similar posts but they dont seem to work as all i have is the start up screen and it just keeps going round and round in circles.

Thanks but it wont even boot in safe mode, i choose that option all i get is a black screen saying that the file is missing or corrupt? and it just goes round and round in circles what ever i choose.

If i buy a new windows vista or 7 cd will it install then?

This should allow you to go back to the way the computer was the day you bought it. <You will have to upadate, make your own settings, create favorites and documents again. Good luck and Happy Holidays
