"old" computer/new vista install

It depends on what you are wanting to do. Are you wanting to reinstall Vista, change to a different edition of Vista, dual boot with the other Vista on another drive, etc.... ?

I would back up anything you do not want to lose to be safe though. You just never know. ;)

If both editions are 32-bit and not a OEM copy, then you should be able to run the Ultimate installation from within Home Premium and select the upgrade option to install it. If anything turns up missing, it should be in a C:\Windows.old folder.

After getting everything up and running on the laptop there's a noticeable difference in the start time compared to my PC which has numerous tweaks applied from the tutorials here. The laptop just takes about 30 seconds longer between the MICROSOFT CORPORATION with the moving indicator bar and the WINDOWS logo on a restart.
