Ok guys, I really need help. It took my 6 hours already and still not fingering out....

I have one Vista and one XP. I would like to share a folder on my Vista to XP. I configured all the things that it needed to be configured....however, my XP can see my vista shard folder from Vista but I couldn't open--"Access denied. Contact Network Administrator".... I have everyone-full control permission on Vista shared folder

Additionally, I tried to copy a file into my Public folder on Vista..my XP see it but can't open it.."Access denied. Contact Network Administrator".....

Lastly, I also tried disable firewall on my both boxes..but ..still having same problem...

Does anyone have any idea??..any help would be much appreciated.

very unfortinate .. but xp and vista cant share files ... save it online and open it on the other computer ..
also try saving the file to a memory stick andpen the file from the memory stick on the other pc

What you want to do is entirely possible, and even simple, but you've got to follow some basic guidelines. There are tutorials here as well as loads of walthroughs on the web, so I'll just confine myself to explaining some concepts:

EVERYONE means "everyone I know". It does not mean "literally everyone" unless you enable the "guest" account and flick a few other control switches, but that's not a good idea.

Each of those machines examines the incoming access request and then asks itself whether it knows of the user making the request. Since they are (presumably) standalone machines, there is no way that machine X knows about any of the users on machine Y. One way around that obstacle is to create and use accounts with the exact same username and password on both machines. That way, when it sees an incoming request by "Bob", the target machine thinks "yup, I've got a 'Bob' in my user database and they've got full control."

Leaving the firewalls off while you're troubleshooting is a good idea - it decreases the number of moving parts.

FYI ... I do care ... and I gave him/her ways he/she could transfer files between a vista and xp. I'm sorry if you thought it was funny , because ... it kinda wasen't.

I'm trying it right now..i'll let you know if it works...I also know that if I install XP Service pack 3 with 32bit and a fix to sharing a problem also work....I never try this.....

I tried and It didn't work. what about computer name and workgroup name?..Do they need to be the same in order to work????...

Had similar issue for a long time until I verified sharing on my computers, both XP & Vista, and set up user login passwords for the computers I wanted to access. I now have access to shared drives/folders on all my password protected computers, but not on the one computer I have not set a password on.

Computer names, & workgroups do not have to be the same, although it is easier if the workgroups were the same.

Well, I did that. I verified all the setting on my shared folder.....I also set the password for my shared folder. I was able to log in to my shared folder, which is on Vista, from WinXP, but I couldn't view the contents..."Access denied"..I did a little research on MS website....I found that I need to install SP3 and a hot fix for WinXP in order to sharing with Vista...well, my XP has only 512MB...yeah..it is an very old computer, and it is getting very slow....i'm not sure if I want to install SP3..getting too slow...
