I RESET WINSOCK USING CMD AND EVERYTHING'S GOOD NOW!
I have a very strange problem with the networking on my Asus Laptop running Vista Home Premium SP1.
A few days ago I tried to connect to a free wi-fi network at a coffee shop. I don't remember what I did but I clicked something to allow Windows to alter my settings to try and make the connection work.. The next morning when I tried to connect to the internet firefox wouldn't work. The only browser that works is IE and none of my other programs are able to connect and update. I had this same problem about six months ago and ended up doing a system restore to correct it. The networking expert at my school has tried to fix it with no luck and said it was a virus of some sort. I still believe it's a settings issue bc both times it's happened has been when I tried to let the network wizard fix a connectivity issue with a wierd router.
Things I've tried:
1. resetting my Tcp/IP whatever settings.
2. device manager showed that a MS ITACP adaptor #3 was not functioning properly so based on a thread here I uninstalled it and re-started my computer hoping it would show up, it's gone now.
3. going into the options of Firefox and trying every proxy option.
4. I had recently upgraded to Avg antivus 2012 so I completly uninstalled that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
John
