Optimizing Vista Services

I'd be interested to know who apart from me has adjusted/tweaked their 'Vista Service' settings as per blackviper.com's recommendations/suggestions and what has been your experience doing this?

Hi Mr. Smiley,

I used it along with SpeedyVista and had no problems with using the recommendations. Of course, a person needs to aware of what they will and will not be using before hand.

I notice that TweakHound.com's 'Vista Services Recommendations' differ somewhat from BlackViper's (Please refer to link and table below).

What I would like to know, and please excuse my ignorance on this matter, am I safe to disable the following services as per TweakHound.com's recommendations? Please advise:

Neil,

TweakHound is good to, but you do not get alot of details about the services like you would at SpeedyVista or BlackViper's. I would read the descriptions for them there and if you feel you will not be doing any of that, then it should be safe to disable them. If not, you can always just enable them again if something stops working that you wanted. It will usually tell you that in the error that the service is not running so you will know which one it was.

I have used BlackViper's recommended 'Safe' suggestions for years, with minor changes. For example I disable 'Computer Browser' and 'Server' since I have a stand alone computer not on a network. The same with 'TCP/NetBios Helper'. Being on broadband I have no use for 'DNS Client' either. To each their own though. If you are in doubt then leave it at default until researched and determined if applicable for your computing environment or not.
