Overlay on my screen...weirdest thing ever

Okay so I suddenly got this overlay on my computer screen. Split right down the middle like someone laid a peice of paper over it. Sometimes it fades and you can see the screen behind it. Sometimes there is a band in the middle and the other side is visible with my mouse traveling to it like with a dual screen set up. Is there any way I can find out what is causing this? Everything else looks too good for it to be a graphics card going out?

If this is a laptop the cable to the display can be lose or have a micro size break that when the display is moved it wigs. If this is a desktop I would suggest swapping the video cable just to see if that is the possible cause.

It may be the ribbon to the display, however, when I look at a screen shot I see my full desktop without the overlay. Should it be that way? I mean if it where the graphics or screen connection wouldn't the screenshot show the actual desktop? I don't know just hoping that it wasn't some sort of joke malware or worm.

Nope, the fact that a screenshot shows normally indicates it is the cable.

Aaarrrrgggg...I can now see the other side of the screen using the magnifier. That is just so, I don't know. Anyways, took it apart and looked at the wiring. Everything seems to be intact. Crap, well I'm not buying a new one. I'll just use tiny screen until it all goes out. I don't know what I would replace anyway as I don't know how to find out what isn't working.
