PDF to Word document

I am using Windows Vista and I have Microsoft Office 2007. I have a HP Photosmart D110 Series scanner/printer. I have been told that I can produce *.doc documents from scanned JPG or PDF formats. I have not been able to achieve this, nor have I found anyone who can help me do it. All, however tell me that I should be able to do it.

I have tried Microsoft Document Imaging, but all Format is lost and the font is all the same font and text size, whereas the original had more than one font and varied test sizes.

Well I like free too. The Nuance was $99.00 I can't imagine Adobe giving anything away for free either, especially if it comes in a box. I forgot to put free in my post. I am asking folks to verify that it can be done with Microsoft Office and the HP photosmart 110 series printer running in Windows Vista.And if it can. How please?

This is actually getting very close to what I want. However the format is lacking. I am interested in editing a hard copy of a office form with lines. The particular document that I am speaking of actually has text written in a vertical plane , so that it can be filed horizontally standing on edge in a pend-a-flex folder and the Identifying information can be read as it rests horizontally.

Years ago I worked in a engineering office. I was playing around with a scanner that had OCR and scanned a flyer from the mail. I changed the text and made a funny document out of it and showed it to my boss for a laugh. I could change several different fonts on that document.The scanner was not a PC variety so I am sure it was quite sophisticated . but this is 14 years later and I had hoped that technology had brought Home PC's up to that level.

Normally, when you do a scan with an HP scanner, you can specify saving the file in .RTF format. You can open that in Word, edit it and save as a .doc or .docx. You can then convert it to PDF using any of the free PDF writers out there.

I don't know what in the world I am doing I have saved the doc as RTF PDF DOC and DOCX On any of the formats when I try typing on the image there is no text showing up . The image has the reference or ( indexing ) circles on it and it is very easy to move the image around on the document by accident. I can not write on it. I have opened the PDF in adobe reader and that does not help either.

I want to understand you clearly. When you made the scan, did you specify .rtf? If so, you can open that in Word. After editing, save as .doc or .docx. Then convert it to PDF.

I didn't know you wanted to write on it. Now you're forcing me to remember how to do that kind of thing in Word:D

One thing you can do is type your text on a page, then overlay the image on the text. In the properties, set the image to be behind the text.

Another way to anotate in Word is to select Insert\Shapes. Pick one. Place it on your picture, right click and select Add Text. You can right click and select the desired font, etc.

Note you can do that in Word with any inserted Picture. So, if you scanned to .jpg, all you would have to do is insert it.

I'm sure there are other ways but I don't have time to investigate.

I'm not sure what you're wanting to do. If you scanned the image as a .jpg or similar, you could annotate it in something like Paint. Maybe you can tell us what type of material you're scanning and what you really want to do with it.

There are forms online, for example employment documents or IRS documents that when you load them onto your computer You can enter the information into the fields. I know that that is a different type of thing. But if you scanned the forms that you got from the post office (IRS) Can you then scan them and type the information on the proper line. I guess i want to be able to use my computer as a typewriter to fill out forms that I have scanned.

I used to try to do that back when I had Win 98. Can't remember the details but I could never get the correct alignment (I wasn't using Word).

I just got thinking about it. If you scan a document as a .rtf, you should be able to overtype on it since it's not an image.

Thing is, I don't know if the IRS will accept copies. They've gotten more relaxed about it lately.

I think there is a setting save image as text if not try Foxit PDF Reader that has the setting

You can select .txt but I think you lose the formatting.
