i can get to about step 4 but after that it doesnt ask me to log in as anything ir just says repair computer

can you please just help me find a place to download the Ndis.sys file from the drivers folder i can drag and drop it i think

I'm not sure what procedure you're doing where you are at step 4, but if it is the procedure I just posted, it's going to wipe you system clean if you continue. You need to cancel out and wait for Niemiro to return with instructions on how to get the driver - I'm not sure how to do it.

OK. I think you have made yourself a Recovery CD already. Please boot into it, and select Repair your Computer. Now select Command Prompt. Type notepad.exe and press enter. Use the File > Open dialogue box to perform the following:

Download the attached file onto a memory stick.

Plug in the memory stick. Use notepad to copy ndis.sys from the memory stick into C:\Windows\System32\Drivers

Exit out of Command Prompt, and try to boot the computer. Please be warned that this driver will not be perfectly compatible, so please stick with us while we try to find a more compatible file on your computer afterwards please.

Try a few times, that always does some good Otherwise, can I please confirm that you are using 32bit Windows. I shall admit that I wasn't quite expecting this to happen!

It is proably a corruption of the Windows Side by Side structure. Since he has replaced the file, and he still gets a MISSING message, he has a WinSxS corruption. He has not come back to us, and this is not the correct fix. If he still wants help, we can dig deeper.

I didn't explain very well. The file I sent him works fine on my computer. The message is missing or corrupt. To generate a corrupt message, the corruptions has to be MASSIVE, which my file which may be slightly incompatible is not. I am therefore inclined to believe that the file is missing. Since it obviously isn't, it must be missing from the Windows Side by Side Structure, or Widnows cannot find it, which can occur for several reasons, for example by pointing to the wrong file names/corruption in the registry. Either way, it would need a lot of digging.

Contact microsoft tec support

I STRONGLY RECOMMENDED you take your pc to a computer repair-man! Thats your best bet. With no vista disk...theres really no hope

@Sahil. Malechicken is already getting excellent advice to repair the problem without $70/hr Microsoft Support (which is likely to be no better) or needing a computer repair shop yet (though the problem is indeed serious). All a computer repair shop is going to do (and Microsoft Support as well most likely since fixing this any other way will take time and effort and much expertise - and thus great cost through them) is suggest re-installing the system for which we can provide good instructions at no cost. There's no proof this is a hardware problem yet - so I'm not even sure why a computer repair shop would even be recommended let alone STRONGLY recommended. While this does seem serious, a re-installation will almost certainly fix the problem - but we're trying to avoid that until there's no other choice. There is absolutely no need to spend money in this situation at this point in time. Please be careful about recommending expensive alternatives until no other options remain - and that is far from being the case here.

@Malechicken. Listen to Richard and follow his recommendations. There's no need to spend any money yet or go elsewhere. At worst, we'll try a re-intallation and that is likely to work though it is a bit radical at this point yet. We're still trying to solve this causing the least amount of difficulty for you later (and certainly without cost if at all possible and there's no reason yet to believe that is necessary).
