Also before HP had a vista driver on there website but not any more is this true?

I am trying this work around

Method for getting HP Laserjet 1000 to work under*VISTA OS
*
1) Download*and extract*the*latest HP Laserjet 1000 XP drivers (dated 2005)
*** ( automatically extracted to c:lj1000hb )
*
2)*Then go to... *Start /Control Panel /printers*.... then Add a Printer
*
3) A new window comes up ...Next select.... Add a local Printer
*
4)*then check "Use an existing port"* and on the right there is an option to choose a port.
****choose *"USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB)"
*
5) select HP in list select have disk and click on the USB.inf file as the computer has a parallel to USB cable

but when I do this I get error 0x00000057
.

please tell me what to do to follow which instruction please I have been trying to get this working for the last week

I did download the host based driver (lj1000 well but when I go into properties it keeps saying driver missing but apparently the printer is installed I keep getting error 0x00000057

I don't know what any of the code mean please help

when I print from word its comes up with a box printing but nothing comes out the printer

but when I go to printer jobs its empty

when I go to printer in control panel it say driver not installed when I go to update driver its say 0X00000057 so I can even update the host based driver but when I first set it up I added the host based driver but keeps going missing when I go back into properties I just don't understand it

Welcome
The HP download page seems to indicate that the driver is for XP, lets give this a go
Download and save the driver to your desktop (for XP)
Completely uninstall the driver that you have now
Then unattach everything, except mouse, keyboard and printer.
Then try to install in compatiblity mode
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/75909-compatibility-mode.html
Shut down computer and then boot
Let us know what happens.

I will give you all the help that I can, you can count on that.
If this is your printer, in the link below, I think this is the driver that you need.
HP LaserJet 1000 Printer*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center
You go into devices and printers (type those words in search by the start button) and then uninstall the drivers.
You will see a picture of your printer, right click and then remove device. Boot the computer and then make sure that it is gone. If it is gone the driver is uninstalled.

Before trying the above, try this
Uninstall the driver, as explained above
Remove everything except the printer, keyboard and mouse and printer.
Turn on your printer

Boot the computer, does it work?

If you received an CD with the printer, use the CD, the correct driver is on the CD.

ok so before trying above do I install the driver but leave the laser ePrinter in the printers part of the control panel if so how do I delete the driver with out deleting the laser jet 1000 which is showing printers menu in control panel is it right clink then printer server then a ljb1000 driver shows up do I select remove?

My Computer

You want to go to devices and printer as I said, above. You want to right click on the picture of the printer and then it says remove or uninstall or something, click on that.
The printer driver should be uninstalled and all mention of the printer, everywhere, should be gone.
Just in case you do not do it correctly, make a system restore point before you try anything. With the restore point, whatever mistake you make can be undone easily.

Found New Hardware

windows needs to install software Hewlett packard HP LaserJet 1000

1) locate and install driver software (recommended)

2)ask me again later

3) don't show this message again for the device

now I'm going to download the hostbased driver for xp like you said rich

I'm guessing what to do next is browse and find the driver right from the download that you gave me but its an exe file rich

My Computer

Turn it on and remove everything else that is attached, except what is needed eg. keyboard and mouse. Once you do that, we can only hope.

When that is done, you should be able to print.
But
Boot the computer before trying to print.

OK
The bad news here is that if the driver could not be found automatically, you have an old printer. Our last hope is to try compatiblity mode
Go to the HP page, and choose the XP driver.
It will give you a choice run or save, choose save.
Save it to the desktop. When on desktop, right click on it. Then choose compatilbity mode.
