The bad news here is that if the driver could not be found automatically, you have an old printer. Our last hope is to try compatiblity mode
Go to the HP page, and choose the XP driver.
It will give you a choick run or save, choose save.
Save it to the desktop. When on desktop, right click on it. Then choose compatilbity mode.

ok downloaded driver from HP lij1000.exe that's for xp I irght click gives me xp comparability mode service pack 2 tick the box to run in this mode and now do I run and install the exe I just downloaded?. Or do I right click and extract folder here?

am I installing the exe file at this point or extracting?

I have rebooted again so message pops up found new hardware?

well I'm going to run the exe file again from HP that says it for xp and I right clicked it done compatibility mode for xp service pack 2 it popups up with already installed shall I overwrite I click yes to all reboot again


. But apparently its in c: ljhp1000 directory that's where the software has apparently


if software is installed why is it not coming up in printers menu in control panel its just got the stand Sep printer not my HP printer


I have run the software host based 1000 driver exe but still a box popup found new hardware I ignore this and go to printed menu control panel and nothing there expect Sep printer which is not my HP LaserJet 1000

I don't know if it works I'm trying to follow your instruction I know they don't have a vista driver but I'm trying the host based driver

yep its in devices

I brought it from ebay

I rebooted it said device driver installed I went in word print and shows printing but nothing comes out the printer

I then go to printer menu in control panel and right click on properties as popup say HP printer driver is not installation this computer but when I rebooted it so installing driver driver successfully installed

what's going on here

When you buy from Ebay, you have to know if the printer will work with your computer. I think that the printer is not comatible with Vista.

Thanks very much for helping rich I know your right buying off ebay and then find out printer does not work with vista was a big let down for me

I will try the above methods an report back in a week or two

I would try with compatiblity mode, again. Be sure that you are doing it correctly. Read the tutorial that I gave you on compatiblity mode. That is what the mode is for, situations just like this.
