Well, if the abcess breaks and travels in the blood stream. As long as that doesn't happen. It could turn out okay.

I had one, abcess, clear up, abcess, clear up. But it was just a small pain that came and went over a month. I went in to the dentist, they went 'Uh oh !' and put me on antibiotics for a week to kill the abcess. Then they took care of the cavity.

Yes that seems to be the standard treatment here too. Clean up the secondary infection then treat the cause.
I've just been to the dentist & the cost for a 6 monthly standard oral examination & removal of calculus was A$127. Money well spent. Prevention is always better than cure.

Ouch.

I do have to pay half for anything major in my dental work. Some things like a dental bridge I have to pay 75 percent. X-rays and cleaning are no cost to me, but that is about it. And that is with dental insurance.

I'm sure that you will survive both the pain in the hip pocket & the "relaxation" in the dentist's chair.
When it's all over don't forget to make an appointment for a check up in another six months. ;)
Good luck.

Guess we are lucky, one root canal for me is ~170£. Free for children and youth, I think. But, I should get something for the worst taxes in the world...
