Solved Power Point .pps files

After reinstalling Vista a couple of months ago, today I noticed that there is no .pps extension listed in Control Panel\Default Programs\Associate..... As a result, I can't open .pps files.

I notice it is in the registry.

How do I add it in the Default Programs?

If you do not have a program installed to view PowerPoint PPS files, then you could install the free PowerPoint Viewer at the appropriate link below.

(If PPS file created in PowerPoint 97 and later)

Yep. I previously had the 2003 and 2007 viewers and they worked just fine. I now have the 2010 viewer. The problem is that .pps is not shown in the file association list so that I can assign the viewer to it. As I said, .pps is shown in the registry. It is assigned to something there (I'm not on that machine right now) and might have to change it.

However, I have the Microsoft 2007 Office Home version installed which consists of Word, Excel and Outlook. It does have the trial version of the other apps, including power point. I've replaced file associations related to PowerPoint to the Viewer. I had to reinstall that after reinstalling Vista.

Are you able to right click on a PPS file and use Open with as in METHOD TWO of the tutorial below to select the program that you wanted to be associated to have PPS files open with?

Yes, it worked and the .pps is now under the Default Programs, Associate...... It is strange though. I told it to open it with Viewer 2010 and it did. But, in Default Programs it set the default to my MIcrosoft Office 2003-2007 Power Point Viewer. Obviouly, I changed that to the Viewer 2010 and now everything is working properly.
