Im seeking information on a recommended power supply for a system that will probably be replaced in a year so I only want to spend what is required to upgrade not boast.
I have a AMD X2 system running a 3800+ X2 on 2GB ram with two SATA 2 drives, 2x 6" fans plus standard fans, Generic 6600 GPU, on a MS-7100 MSI mainboard. Currently it has a 450w PSU with 18A on the red. Vista Ultimate 32bit is OS
I upgraded my GPU to a Gigabyte GeForce 8600GT 256MB 8600 GT. On installation everything appeared to go well. Then I lost the second core on the CPU and then I got intermittent freezing and failure of the system. No errors in logs, so no driver issue.
I reverted back to the old 6600 and AOK again.
So lack of watts/Amps is the culprit. The question is how much more juice do I need. Do I get a 500w/600w/800w. What do I need to run the card at full pelt without overspending.
Thanks in advance.
